How does this plan for SAT II’s sound to you guys…
I’m currently taking AP US History, in addition to Honors Precalculus. Logically, it would then make sense for me to move on and take Math II and History subject tests, am I not mistaken?
I feel a bit of pressure off of the fact that 2 out of the 3 of my subject tests will be my sophomore year, though I will be saving Physics for junior.
Are there any objections to this? Should I be saving more subject tests for 11th grade?
that plan is perfectly fine, in fact it’s great. It will receive pressure for you next year, when you also have to take the real sat next year. Imagine having to take the sat and three sat subject tests in 1 year? not good right?
Is anyone still debating whether to select AP or IB? I understand most of you already have the chance to take AP this year but for me, its about the GPA and diploma program. I think this year, with all honors (expect gym) the maximum GPA is a 4.5, but with AP its around a 5.0 and then some IB classes + AP is a 5.4
My school is going to do a reunion type of thing, but I just don’t know.
How is the AP rigor for some of you?
What did you hear about the IB rigor at your schools?
@wydlife I would stick with AP. It’s less hassle for the same college credits. In fact, I think I read somewhere that colleges only place a slightly greater emphasis on IB than AB.
the rigor would depend on the number of AP’s you take. The choice between AP and IB depend on what you as a person want. For example, at my school IB is mainly for people who enjoy humanities classes, like english. This is evident in the IB program itself, as most of the required classes (e.x theory of knowledge) are humanities classes. I am a STEM person, so I’ll stick with AP stem classes. Also, what’s the point of IB, are you planning on going to college somewhere outside the U.S?
@Mahindra I’m planning on applying to RSI as well! (I actually attempted to do so this year before I reached the part in the application that made it clear that I’d have to be in my penultimate year of high school.) I doubt I’ll be getting in but it can’t hurt to try.
Does anybody have any tips for juggling an 8-period course load? My school district just recently switched from a 6-period school day to 8 periods every two days (alternating 4 different classes every other day). With 4 AP classes and other difficult classes, I was just wondering what anyone else is/has done in order to make studying for tests and those dreaded AP exams a litter easier. Any advice helps!
AP US History
AP Calc
AP Lang and Comp
AP Physics 2
Quantitative Chemistry (it’s an honors class but my school stopped labeling classes as “honors” a couple years ago)
Spanish 3
Criminology
Piano Study
I’m in the same number of Ap’s. What you do is quite simple. After you come home from an extracurricular, work really hard. Work hard and work smart, and you’ll do fine.
@phanakin Oh a similar thing happened to me! I thought RSI was for all high schoolers and I even read a blog from a past RSI alumni talking about how anyone could apply and there was even a person as young as 12 in their group. I guess they changed it!
@thehhs12 Im not really that smart or dedicated. I am a horrible procrastinator. For my precal test yesterday, I ended up staying up until 2:35 in the morning to study because started at like at 11:00 pm on Wednesday night
