High School Class of 2020

Got a 4 on AP Human Geography - a self study endeavor I started in late April. I must admit that I was shooting for a 5, but the exam wasn’t easy and very few universities actually consider the APHG exam for college credit. I purely was doing this for the sake of interest & research in the field. Not going to lie, the wait for my score was so enticing & I didn’t expect to get a 4 at all. I was thoroughly convinced I would score a 2.

Self studying is a practice that is not for everyone. It isn’t for me. This was something I learned a week before the exam: rummaging through my annotation-filled review book & cramming in many, many Quizlet flashcards. The way I studied for this exam was immensely inconsistent & I do very much contribute a terrible studying regimen to my not getting a 5. Still, I will take a 4 over anything below it. Glad the wait is over and that I now have my first AP result.

Congratulations to all of you on such beautiful scores! For those of you who didn’t achieve the scores in which you wanted, please believe me when I tell you that this is not the end. Sure - fives are beautiful, but guess what else is? PASSING THE EXAM (I THINK A 3 IS PASSING)

Nice scores, @Mike51702!

I’m glad they exceeded your expectations, in that you were sure you’d receive a score of 2 on both of them because you didn’t study or prepare. What is your course load looking like for this upcoming 2018-2019 school year?

@ragingmaddie: I didn’t even know they offered Geography as an IB subject?? That’s so cool! My solid SLs are Spanish and European History, and my solid HLs are English, Biology, and Psychology. I’m debating whether to SL or HL Math? Since I took Calc BC this past year.

I also took SL Chem this past year, and taking the AP class this next year, so I might decide to take a corresponding IB exam. There’s a lot that’s up in the air for me lol.

@spicybiracial Congrats on your AP Human Geography score! That is quite impressive for self-studying.

@trumpetmathgeek I’m glad to hear you had a great time at Yale!

Have a good day!

@phanakin I would HL Math if I were you, especially considering that you got a 5 on the Calc BC exam (congrats, by the way!).

I was debating on doing Chem SL junior year, but I really didn’t enjoy the class so I just going to do Bio HL as a science credit instead.

Also, your school has AP and IB chem? You’re so lucky! My school only has AP US Government and AP Comparative Government (the former I took sophomore year).

I’m also an IBDP candidate! I take SL Math (there is no HL math, however, we might test into the ib exam as juniors depending on this year’s scores), HL Biology, HL or SL Physics (still deciding), English HL, History HL, and Spanish HL.

@ragingmaddie: Thank you very much!! I worked my butt off in that class, so it’s nice to be gratified with a 5 lol

The payoff for taking more than 3 HLs just doesn’t necessarily seem worth it to me?? Like our counselors highly discourage taking 4 HLs because kids tend to not do as well as they think they would. I might take your advice and HL Math though? (Although I was looking forward to not doing math in senior year, since I would have 6 math credits by the end of junior year anyway.)

Yesssss, we can HL Bio together then!

My school’s actually super great in that regard; we have a huge variety of AP and IB classes, since we have more kids who take AP than IB (in my year, there’s about ~55 kids in a class of 512 on the IB track). How was US Gov, btw? It was on my schedule for next year, but I’m doubting myself since the redesign’s going into effect.

@wydlife: Daaaang! You’re obviously free to do what you want, but in my opinion you’d be better off SL-ing Physics? The Law of Diminishing Returns, and all that. 5 HL’s doesn’t give you enough of a payoff to justify the amount of work you have to do.

I just got accepted for the Turning Point USA Leadership Summit at George Washington University! I’m so excited to go back to D.C. for such an honor.

@ab2002 What is it about Turning Point USA that appeals to you?

@socaldad2002 I believe in capitalistic values, I’m a constitutionalist, and I am extremely in favor of actual free speech, which I feel has been stripped from MANY high school students in the past few years.

@phanakin True, that’s why I’m only doing 3 HLs. Math HL may not be worth the extra work unless if you enjoy math , and you already got a college credit for math with AP Calc so you’d be fine with taking Math SL.

AP gov was awesome!! I’ve always been interested in government so it wasn’t too bad for me. The exam was really easy this year, which was nice for me haha. With the redesign it’ll be a lot harder next year but I’m sure you’ll still do fine; I wouldn’t worry about it.

Lmk later this year how Bio HL goes for you! The upperclassmen at my school say the class itself is relatively easy but the exam is pretty difficult. I’m not taking the exam until the end of senior year so at least I don’t have to worry about it for a while.

By the way, what topic are you planning on choosing for your EE? I’m considering doing mine on History.

@ab2002 LOOK AT YOU GO! CONGRATULATIONS!

I can tell that summit is definitely going to be an experience for you! Having not been to D.C. myself, it must be really neat to have the opportunity to be in the heart of what keeps this country going (and a bit corrupt, but ya know: like you, I love actual free speech.)

Enjoy ya self!

@ab2002 Congrats on the summit! I live near by D.C., and it’s really amazing! Enjoy yourself!

Have a good day!

I just took the Chem And Math II subject tests back in June and got my scores back today. I got an 800 on both but the percentiles are confusing me. For Math II apparently I was the 79th percentile and for Chem I was in the 91st? Does that mean that I was the 79th percentile for the raw score in Math and barely got an 800 or does that mean I was in the 79th percentile after they scaled the scores and that 21% got 800s and they all got the same percentile?

The percentile doesn’t reflect your raw score. You’re in the 79th percentile because 21% of people get an 800 on the Math II. No need to worry  Nice job, by the way!

@Max147 - I too was confused initially but after checking with a few friends and asking on this forum…think the explanation given by @awesomepolyglot is correct. (BTW…I too got 800 in Math II with 79th %ile - a few of my friends got same scores…so think all 800’s will be at the same percentile).

All 800s on any given test are the same percentile, as are all 790s, 780s, 770s…

@hs2020kid and @awesomepolyglot thanks for the info. I thought I was cutting it close with my scores.

hey is anyone taking the july act??

i am. it’s my first time, and i’m really really nervous. current composite score is a 34. aiming for a 35.

everything except for science is a 33-35. science is always a 30; can’t get past it for some reason !!!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I’m taking the ACT in September, is it very difficult? I’ve started studying and everything
