@Mahindra Welcome back! How has everything been going?
Have a good day!
what have you guys been doing so far over the summer?
i’ve just been studying for SATs, self-studying AP Physics 1 and python… having so much fun so far
Playing fortnite, working at a summer camp, doing AP summer work which I have a TON of, and studying for the ACT.
@sputniik That’s awesome!
Personally, I’ve been enjoying my time with my summer community swim team, especially because I have a lot of good friends on there, and I wasn’t able to be part of it last summer because of acne conglobata. I’ve also been attending SAT Prep and have been self-studying the first units of Pre-Calculus.
Have a good day!
My summer: AP hw for APUSH + AP Lang, a few community service activities (but not too many), a dual enrollment course through local CC, looking into which tests to take (ACT or SAT, praying I can afford to take both at least once) plus cheap tutoring and prep options for the aforementioned two, planning to start a NHS chapter at my school come September. I’m striving to build up the courage to ask my mom for $700 (you heard that right: $700) for an online course that my guidance counselor is likely going to reject in August when I ask if I can take it.
my summer’s pretty precarious, but I gotta keep going. :’ )
Also: it’s amazing how you all are already studying for SATs/ACTs. I plan to take the ACT in April (I haven’t even seen the ACT dates for this yr, so I am hoping April is an option) & and I haven’t even purchased a prep book.
I’m at COSMOS right now, so I’ve been living at UCSD for the past two weeks. Honestly, I love it. The professors and facilities here are amazing, and they’re doing a lot of specialized stuff (synthetic biology specifically) that I haven’t really heard much about anywhere else. If anyone has questions about UCSD I am not a student here (obviously), but I still may be able to answer some of the questions you might have. Especially concerning the dorms, food, or campus overall. UCSD wasn’t high on my list before but it certainly is now.
Anyone here going to Latin Convention this coming week?
I just got access to my naviance graphs since they are blocked for sophomores. I looked at some of the graphs which showed that it is easier to get into local schools in the Northeast which is obvious since I live there. What was surprising however, was how many people get into Vanderbilt, which is one of my top choices. I had previously thought of it as a high reach, but after looking at the stats, over 40% get in which even accounts for the people who are completely overreaching with low 1400 SATs and low GPAs. For people with similar stats to me, it’s closer to 55% with only waitlists or accepts and no rejections. I also know many of the people who were accepted and they do not have great ECs. This gives me a ton of hope and I will definitely be reading less results threads here in the future. While they can give you some idea of how hard it is to get in, things vary widely from school to school.
@Max147 Vanderbilt is one of my top choices as well! Good luck.
Have a good day!
My school’s class of 2017 had 15 people go to Vanderbilt. It’s widely said that Vandy hates middle Tennessee, but my school might be exempt :-?
@awesomepolyglot 15 people is surprisingly a lot to me. At my school, each class is around 675 students, but only 3 kids were accepted in the last eight years…
Good luck to you!
Have a good day!
Emory is off my list. The price was RIDICULOUS! As someone who wants to go to grad school, a whopping 70k a year is not an option. I’m really surprised, because both Northwestern and Dartmouth expect 29k a year. My friends told me that the price was crazy, but I didn’t expect that.
LOL!
@Max147 Amen to you, my dude. I’ve gotten off of reading these threads. They would always leave me mad and upset. Looking at the stats for my school has given me a much better read and talking to people who have gotten in (from my school).
when are you guys taking standardized tests? i’m taking my SAT in oct and my math 2 subj test in dec + physics subj test in may.
also – do you guys wanna make a discord or something?
@sputniik Good luck on your tests! I will be taking a SAT With Essay in August. I plan on taking the Literature, Spanish, and US History Subject Tests, but haven’t decided when yet. I will most likely take Spanish and US History near the end of junior year.
In terms of Discord, thanks for the offer, but I don’t have one, nor do I play much video games . However, best of luck to you on that as well.
Have a good day!
@sputniik I’m taking the ACT sometime in the winter. I’ll take the SAT in the spring or in August if my PSAT is good enough that I have a chance for National Merit. As for subject tests, I have 3 good scores and I don’t need to risk taking another one and getting a bad score.
@sputniik I’m taking the SAT w/ essay this October, but might switch to ACT in winter. I plan on taking Math II, Chemistry, and Spanish subject tests but I don’t know when. If a discord is made, I’d be glad to join the group since I already have an account.
hey!! pm me for the discord if interested!
Do any of you guys have a Leadership Class in your school? It’s application only for my school and I got in as one of only 4 rising juniors (class is made up of 99%seniors) do you guys think it can be beneficial for college admissions? or if you guys have something similar in your school
