@isla701 My school also has prerequisites for AP’s, so I’ve only taken 2 so far: Latin and Comp Sci. Next year I can only take an AP Science, APUSH, and AP Calc BC. I think that we should be fine, since my dean said that colleges only compare your GPA with other students from the same school. I think colleges just want to see that we’ve taken advantage of all the resources our schools have
Have you guys started thinking of summer programs? I was thinking about applying for Yale Young Global Scholars or LaunchX, but I know that admissions for those are super competitive…
I’m thinking about frontiers at WPI. It seems a little less competative, but still looks like a great program.
I’m applying to CMU SAMS (won’t get in tho lol)
I have a metric ton of marketing stuff to do. Need to make my DECA project; I’m doing Integrated Marketing Campaign-Event. I’m also doing a competition where I make a fundraising campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
@isla701 Hey welcome to the thread!! My school’s one of those schools lol - I’m taking three APs this year (USH, Calc BC, and Bio) and will probably be taking 5 next year (Lang, Chem, Music Theory, Macro, and Gov). None of us sleep but like that’s fine lmao
@stanford2025 I’m planning on applying to some Chinese immersion camps - probably Middlebury and Concordia Language Village. Gonna apply to YSP at FSU as well because they accept a few sophomores each year and my credentials are pretty good, but I’m most likely not going to get in (it’s primarily juniors).
In other news - so I’ve wanted to major in bio/biomed ever since I was 10. This year I’m in like three biology classes and a ton of bio ECs… and I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t actually like biology all that much. Yeet.
@chrysalism Holy crap. That’s a tough conclusion to come to after spending all that time and resources into biology. The huge upside is that you figured it out now instead of senior year or first year of college.
@chrysalism You’ve got lots of time to figure out what you actually want to do! Biology is chill but if you don’t want to do it u def have time to cultivate other interests
Honestly idk what I want to do… I’ve been learning Python and working on a TTS news project, and am building a weird gauntlet thing and bought an Arduino starter kit and a Raspberry Pi Zero but idk if CS/robotics is my #1 interest, cause I’ve been doing a lot of business related stuff recently and I’m really likig that too but ughh
@CavsFan2003 how have you been learning Python? I’m just curious because I’d also like to learn a programming language, but I’m debating between Python and Java.
Anyone else getting restless about PSAT scores? I barely studied because I figured I could be serious when I take it next year to qualify for NMSF/NMF; in hindsight I should’ve put forward my best effort so I can put down a decent score when I apply to STEM camps for this summer.
@destinedforND Just since August! I’ve heard Java puts you more in the mindset of CS but Python is more applicable.
Also lol I never took the PSAT, I was in Connecticut when it was administered. I don’t regret it, though.
Oh god, I’ve been waiting for the PSAT scores for ages. I literally am counting down the days. I tried to study as much as I could with my schedule, in addition my SAT subject test scores! I took them today.
@KennyStudies Which subjects did you take?
I took the math 1 & 2. I mainly studied for the math 2 and took the math 1 for fun, they were both decent. Its my 2nd time taking the math 1 though
are these good classes for junior year at a highly competitive high school: ap chem (2 periods; one counts as ap chem and the other as chem 2 honors), apes, apush, ap lang, ap calc ab, and sports marketing 3 honors
@hsstudent986 5 APs and 2 honors at any school is a great schedule.
I’m not even sure what courses I’m taking next year; it depends on if I stay at my school or attend boarding school. My guidance counselor said I could take AP Lang, APUSH, AP Calc AB, AP Physics, AP CSA, and a study hall, but that’s… a lot.
@hsstudent986 that’s a great schedule, but why are you taking two chem?
@KennyStudies ap chem is two periods because of long labs so you get both an honors and ap credit for it
My junior schedule will be
ap comp
APUSH
AP bio
Ap calc BC
honors or IB physics (still trying to decide)
Honners Spanish 4
gym/not sure yet
yo are we just posting our junior schedules now? Mine is:
AP Lang
AP Chem
Either AP Macro/AP Gov (two half year classes) or AP Music Theory
Calculus III/Differential Equations Honors
Chinese IV Honors
Choir
I wish I had more APs but it’s kind of hard with math - I’m taking BC this year, so the only math classes my school has left for me to take are Calc III/DiffEq and AP Stat (which I want to take senior year).
Also probably going to start taking Spanish online starting next quarter? It’s interesting and I could probably get through 1 and 2 without too much trouble because of the lack of advanced conjugation.
For junior year I’m planning on taking AP Calc AB, AP Comp Gov, AP Chem, Spanish 3, the required health and PE classes, orchestra, and I can’t decide whether to take AP Lang or English electives. (My School doesn’t have honors classes, and we have a block schedule). I think that I can handle 3 AP’s, but I’m not sure about 4, especially seeing as English is my worst subject. Any advice? Is 3 AP’s competitive enough?
Also, what extracurriculars are some of you involved with?
