High school grades Vs national examination results

For students from countries which have standardised national examinations, how important will high school grades be? How do addcoms evaluate if one has impressive results in the national examination but has a less-impressive high school grade? Do they place more emphasis on the national examination like how it is in our home countries?

well national exams have to be emphasised but regular low grades in HS will show an unwillingness to work (unless the internal marking is very tough…like in India which has to be explained)

yup, the internal marking IS tough for my school… and sometimes my school loves to come out with super tough exam questions just to ‘motivate’ students to work harder…

vampiro, how do you and how should i explain it? Can i assume that the top schools know that the marking is tough (esp in many asian high schools)?

Apparently if your SAT is high and your HS grades are low, then they can figure out that your school’s marking is tough or something like that.

Or that you are a slacker.

in my case, i score well in national exams but in school i get Bs. my counselor includes a school profile explanation that says that “marking scheme is very strict and may not reflect the candidate’s true potiential in an external exam”.

“Or that you are a slacker.”

meh.

yeah blusapphire do exactly what Banedon has written I am doing that. Dont worry the adcomms are intelligent and very aware.
