i just got email from her today and my portal was updated to “conditional offer” two days ago.

hey everyone … im a non-jupas student… basicallly im a hong kong national studying in pakistan and have applied to both HKU and HKUST … i submitted my application to the college of engineering ( electrical) to both unis on the 26th of Jan … ANY idea when i should get my decision because i still havent … and most importantl… all my friends who are applying as internationals are getting interview calls … do HK nationals living abroad have an interview?
thanks

HKUSTYAY
Yes I take IB Diploma. The conditional offer was pretty specific. i’m not sure whether the conditional offers are the same for all diploma candidates :P

msaleh
I also applied to HKU and HKUST around January 20th or sth, and i heard back from HKU like 2 days ago. So you should be hearing back from them soon I still havent heard back from HKUST, but two days ago, HKUST sent me an email saying that they will be notifying decisions soon. I’m guessing maybe by next week they’ll send me an offer? :P

chriskim12: That basically means that they are viewing your application as a candidate for ECOF and have eliminated the other choices, so whatever decision they give you now will be for ECOF and also that they dont have decision for you as yet, for which they shal view your documents asap… In short expect a decision very soon for ECOF
Keep your fingers crossed!

Q: TheGrand, I’m going to HKU as an exchange student in the spring of 2011. What are the most interesting (and not too difficult) business classes to take at HKU? cjones120 -

A: No courses are not difficult (except the introductory). Do expect intensive competition. You may find marketing and HRM courses a little less competitive. What type of courses do you want to take? For example, Global Analysis Team Project - is a real exclusive class in HKU (again competitive class, but lots of people from everywhere).

Q: How hard is it to go here as an international (to HK/China) student? B Man 22
A: HK and China has very different admission policies. It also depends on what qualifications you have for HK Universities - for example IB is quite well respected. UK A levels and SAT are also accepted.

Q: Did anyone get accepted to MBBS? (for an international student) iRunShow
A: HKU seldom admits non locals (even mainland Chinese) as the MBBS course is heavily subsidised and chances are that locals will remain working in Hong Kong to contribute back to the society (like an investment by the government. HKU takes pride in its Medical faculty, prob among top 10 in the World. For your information, there was 1 Mainland out of the 150+ spots available for MBBS. I never quite heard of any foreign students. If you have HK citizenship that might be a different issue if you have outstanding credentials.

Q: Why does mine say that im still under consideration for my choices on HKU portal??
i was told through informal email like 4 days ago that i was offered a conditional offer. oldnite1

A: It doesn’t change and its always under consideration. Take the email as the accurate one. I remember mine never changed at all. Congratulations anyway. Which degree are you taking?

A: Not all faculties require an interview - I dont recall the HKU Engineer has an interview process. Anyway, you can always email them politely regarding your application status. Don’t panic if you don’t get calls, not all students get the interview at the same time (given different faculties)

Hi
I’m an international student who’s having a huge trouble of deciding where I should go for college. I applied to colleges in HK because of my dad’s recommendation and I’m deciding over HKU, UIUC, UW-Seattle, UW-Madison. However, despite of it’s good reputation and education in HKU, i’ve always wanting to go to US. But for the future, I don’t know which one will be more beneficial.
If you guys were had to choose between HK and USA where would you guys go and why?

Sonotcool:
I was actually accepted to UIUC, UW Seattle, UW Madison and some other schools like Umich, Carnegie Mellon, Boston College etc as well but i chose to go to HKU. First reason is due to financial matters. It is definately much cheaper to get a degree in HK than in US. plus my degree (bba accounting and finance) takes just 3 years whereas other US unis will take 4 years.
I guess it also somewhat depends on which country you are from because I know that Koreans (yes, I’m Korean) prefer HKU over UIUC/ UW Madison. I also have to serve 2 years in the national service so getting a degree in HKU is much more practical and beneficial for me.
If you decide to attend HKU, I guess you can always go to US as an exchange student. In fact, HKU has some nice exchange programs available for undergrads i heard.

@oldnite1
Are you currently studying in HKU? or are you planning to go?
I’m also Korean. However, I can’t really find any information about life in HKU or anything.
Furthermore, I don’t really know if Korean companies value HKU over UIUC.

btw do you know how many koreans are attending in HKU?
