HKU or HKUST

Msaleh,
Don’t feel sad. Most schools in US have a certain amount of randomness in them. Look around, people with exceptional stats sometimes puzzled about why didn’t they get into a fit/safety school when they have gotten into schools with much higher prestige and selectivity. And as a international student, you often have a disadvantage as you are competing against a different pool of students (and mostly higher stats in average). On top of that, US schools look at many other factors, such as EC, other than GPA ans SAT, and you highschool might not have enough emphasis on these non-score factors. Where did you applied to if you don’t mind me asking? I have been rejected from a fair amount of schools as well if that makes you feel any better. :)

asukam- it is for most universities i am sure… but definately for hku!! well all the best to you… just glad i could be of a little help… :D

i applied to four ivies but i never expected to get in there anyway … stanford wasnt a big surprise either … UC berkeley’s been my dream school FOREVER and i REALLY wanted to go there … and i know i had everything … i didnt ask for aid and i have a LOT of ECs and things … but just HEART BREAKING that i couldnt get in there

Well masaleh, you applied to the most selective schools in the world. And as a international student, the competition is even more fierce. Berkeley is the only school out of your list that I applied to, and I was rejected. They look at GPA and SAT more than anything else, and as a state funded school, residents get priority. And with the budget cut, acceptance rate become all time low. I am pretty sure with your stellar stats you can get into US colleges if you didn’t only apply to the most selective ones.

yeah but then would it be worth going to as compared to schools like McGill/HKUST … i dont think so …
leaving that aside… i had my interview today with HKUST … and it went AMAZING … the professor said he could confirm they would send me and offer =D

msaleh: Congrats!! How long did your interview last?? Mine took over an 1hr and 30 min…

wow !!! what on earth did u talk about … mine lasted 33 minutes only … but he began the interview with ’ ur application is very strong and we like it’ so maybe thats why… but he did say i would get an offer :S so would u go if u got in kyubaek90? where are u from

How do we check HKUST’s application status online?

msaleh: I had two interviews. My first interview was with BBA which was my 2nd choice.

The interview lasted about the same time as you and they gave me an offer.

The 2nd interview was with the Global Biz. It lasted longer but they didn’t give me an offer right away…

But 2-3 wks after the interview, I got my offer from Global Biz and I’m planning on paying for the deposit tomorrow.

And I’m planning on going to HKUST.

BTW I’m from Korea.

carni: That’s what I’m wondering as well… I wanted to check the status on the internet after my offer, but I wasn’t able to

because they got rid of the Application check or Apply button since the application period had finished.

i kept clobal business as my second choice … but im WAY more inlined towards engineering … i think im not getting into global business since they havent contacted me at all …

thats the link for the application status check btw … i check everyday there

msaleh: Hope to see you at HKUST!!

And because I’m an int’l applicant, I can’t check out the application status on-line through the site you posted…

yeah…!! is dere ne link to chk d online status for intl’s…!! ??
@msaleh: wen did u apply…??

kyubaek90:
You just need to follow the link to the international students’ application.

BTW, is anyone still waiting for their decision (especially for engineering)?

jiceo1: Thx!! Mine’s still under consideration… Seems like it will be updated after my deposit payment…

i havent gotten in like i said … no formal letter … but after my interview he told me ,‘i can confirm we’ll send u an offer’… and this was my interview which was ont he 21st and i submitted my application on the 26th of Jan

@jiceo1: mate…!! i applied for engineering and am still w8in for an answer…!!
i applied on 19th march …!! n my docs reachd somedin like 3 weeks l8r…!!

Well, I applied on March 10th and my documents arrived about a week later. Maybe one-two weeks later, I was contacted by them asking me to send the curriculum I was taking at UCLA (since I’m technically applying as a transfer for computer engineering), so the only use for sending a curriculum of my UCLA courses that I can think of is to calculate the number of transferable units?
I didn’t get anything else after that nor interview appointments.

@jiceo1: did u gt a reply frm dem…??
did ya have a telephonic intw…??

I got an email from Olivia asking me to send the curriculum I am doing at UCLA, but nothing regarding telephone interview.

What about you?

i dint gt to hear nethn…!! so i asked her about wen wud i get to hear from the university n she told me it can be netime bw now n june…!!
