so for MBBS applications… I should wait a bit longer for my offer?

and is first year university physics required for MBBS? I have 0.5 credits in physics from last term. is that enough?

Hey guys!

I finally got a response from HKU, cept I’m on the waiting list for the IBGM program =/ What do you think are the chances of that opening up?

They gave me a conditional offer for my 2nd choice, which was the BBA for account&finance but I hecka didn’t think about it and now I regret not picking a regular BBA degree in business or something. Do you think I can still ask to change that…? The conditional offer isn’t very hard; I just need to get at least a B+ in all of my classes, but I heard finance is pretty hard at HKU -.-

did you ask them or did you just receive it?

christoffer
ahh does CUHK have a 2 week limit to confirm your acceptance as well? HKU has a 2 week limit and i hated it very much lol.
so are HK universities your first choice then? why did you choose to go to HK in the first place?
i’m from indonesia actually, but studied in malaysia my whole life. actually planned to go to universities in china i.e. Beijing U,Tsinghua U, but they dont have my course. but now i’m excited about going to HKU! :D

verystressed
congratulations!! wow you got in to U of T as well…i was going to apply there but found out too late i had to take calculus to get in the course i want.
and are you going to HKU for sure? that will be awesome! i’ll be seeing you and zhuangzi on campus hahaha
and i agree, HKU replies to emails very fast…mcgill only replied me after a month and a half since i sent my email, but UBC is actually pretty efficient.

minkey
wow thank you for your information…that was really helpful…thank goodness i only had one choice then. i cant imagine having to wait till august to get visa and interviews done 0.0
congratulations on your offers!! i understand how you feel…i was in the same dilemma before when i was choosing between UBC and HKU…and i hate that i only had 2 weeks to accept my offer! about choosing which u to go…i guess it’s still up to you…what criteria do you have for uni…
like accomodation, quality of students, whether you want to be in the centre of the city or further etc.

@minkey: If you are deciding, I suggest you to put some time in looking at their syllabuses, although both are termed International Business (HKU) and Global Business (UST), their syllabus will tell you that they cover very different subjects. HKU integrates the discipline of business with social sciences, meaning you will touch on politics, sociology, philosophy, law and public administration -if I’m not wrong core business courses only form 50% of your total workload. For UST, it is primarily business base, other than a Global Business degree, you get to pick your second major in your second year. For HKU, your second major is “Global Management” which is essentially all the core courses you are required to take from the social sciences discipline. Both are very respected programs, and you should take some time on thinking which approach to “Global/International Business” suits you more.

Does anyone know how competitive the BA/BEd and BA programs are?

@vania - that’ll depend if the other internationals reject their offers - finance in hku is extremely competitive have fun HAHAHAHAH
@ Canadian universities are much much more relaxed than HKU and less competitive - think about how you want your university life to be :D

@breadsolider - what qualifications are you holding/and your scores? not too competitive i would say if you hold the IB

@The Grand
OMG ARE U SERIOUSS. Can I ask them if I can change my second choice to a regular business administration degree? =/

TheGrand:

SAT I: 1950
SAT II: Math 660, Literature 630, French 560
AP: English and Composition 5, Physics B 3
GPA: 4.1
I do not study under the IB system.

@rissah. Actually I don’t know but since both UST and HKU operate with this time limit it wouldn’t surprise me if CUHK does as well. But would like to get admitted before worrying about that
And they are definitely my first choices. I have always been interested in China, especially the economy, and to study in one of the major financial centers of the world would be awesome :)

I don’t know what to do with my HKU offer. I have to reply by March 15th but I wouldn’t have heard from any other universities by then. I would prefer to go to the US but HKU is such a good school too. I am so confused!

Any Chemical Engg. applicants to HKUST here, got a decision ?
Am still waiting for one, ever since I applied in Nov. '10 .

@TheGrand - thanks for your advice. however everyone is convinced that UST offers better career prospects? but wouldn’t HKU have a better alumni network since it’s been around for so long?

And if you don’t mind me asking, just curious, what course are you doing and at which uni? :D

@jbauer24 - Yes don’t worry too much I don’t know anyone whos heard from MBBS yet. Not too sure about physics though sorry! :D

@rissah - haha how can one have too many good choices. im giving up imperial physics as well to go to HK, my teachers were really disappointed. what course are you doing at HKU?

Hello guys i’m new to this forum.
I just wanted to know… is HKU BBA program better or HKUST’s ?

hey guys, i saw some of your advice and emailed HKU and HKUST about any updates upon my application and possibility of my getting interviewed, or, getting accepted in general. HKU has NOT replied yet (and considering that i sent the mail four days ago, i would say some of you who got the reply in an hour are just lucky.) BUT HKUST on the other hand, said that the decision will be out before March 31st. is this supposed to be a good news? mu first choice is global business -i really dont mind getting into BBA though- but my IB is only 37. i heard that HKUST is slightly more lenient with the grades, and i had a little belief in my SAT score, 2340. so i was confused. am i supposed to take this email as a likely letter, or just pure information? or are they insinuating that im rejected by not accepting me via email when they ‘have enough supporting documents to evaluate’ my admission? I AM FREAKING OUT. help.

Hey guys,

I got all results from universities in Hong Kong… I applied on early December to three universities. And CUHK replied on Feb 1st, HKU on Feb 9th, and HKUST on Feb 15th.
I was pretty impressed because they announced my results quite early. My stats are not very exceptional, except 42 IB predicted score. Now, I am in the difficult situation of having to make a decision between these three excellent institutions.

CUHK - BBA
HKU - BBA (Accounting and finance)
HKUST - BBA and BCs (Economics and Finance)

Could you please advice me on choosing one out of three universities?
I heard that CUHK has LOTS of alumni and pretty helpful when finding a job in HK
And HKU, definitely top university in Asia
I love beautiful campus of HKUST, and it has very strong curriculums…

Arghhhhh! I had to decide one university till March 15th. Need someone to help me out.
