HKU or HKUST

hi everyone. I got into HKU and they want me to reply them by 12th april which is a bit too soon for me considering that i have yet to get a reply from the US schools that I applied for. I am planning on accepting the offer first, to be safe. I want to ask what I can do if I decide to go to other universities instead of hku (should they give me an offer too). Thanks!

Thank :slight_smile: There is a high chance I’ll end up in CUHK, cuz heard it has the best BBA in HK, while UST has the best MBA (nooo idea whether thats true, but oh well)
And ya I can finally end my days of waiting and enjoy rest of high school

ooops “thanks”*

@Addie91

Oh icic. You still doing Alvls in college now?
Erm I dont think so. Heard HKU’s interview is pretty straightforward. Not designed to upset people…i think. lol unlike UK or USA

@uhneetuh

hey i can confirm now that you enroll in the BBA or BBA (acc&fin) in august during registration, so there’s no need to worry about any risks before hand, you have a chance to choose either one of them. just emailed my admissions officer at HKU and that’s what he told me.

oh hello there! i’m (technically) from Malaysia too! (i studied in malaysia my whole life, but i’m indonesian)
what pre-u course did you guys take? i took Canadian Matriculation :smiley:
and forgive me for not reading through the previous 324334 pages, but did you guys apply to HKU too?

and btw…the interviews are pretty much the usual. nothing that requires too much critical thinking.lol. just maybe think of questions that are related to your course, and find something special about your course that you can mention. all the best with your interviews!

helenal
hey there i’m quite sure you can go to other schools…but that means you have to waste the deposit fees for HKU
which course did you apply to? and what other universities did you apply to?

@Shaurya and Dhawal
Nice to see Indian students going to HKUST !! I have got confirmed admission in Comp Engg from HKUST long back and had blocked the seat but I am not sure about joinig at this stage. Currently in Delhi preparing for JEE .Will be nice to share with you in case you all plan to join HKUST. You can also join the facebook for future HKUST students.

my dad used to work at hkust. he says it’s not diverse at all. he says that classes are taught in english, but all the local students talk to each other in cantonese outside of class and pretty much the rest of the student body is from china. i left 4 years ago, but having lived on campus for 7 years, i don’t think i’ve ever seen an indian while on campus. it’s nice to see that indians (and others) are going to hkust.

@helenal- I suggest you pay the money first if HKU is one of your top choices, just to secure the seat. If not, don’t even bother…

Hi guys! =D I’m new here. I’m worried 'cos I applied for BBA to CUHK in Feb and HKUST in March and hasn’t heard from them since… Any idea when they would update me since I applied quite late as compared to the others? I really want to get into either one. Thanks!

@Flaminrash

Thanks for notifying! I have also e-mailed my admission officer about that, and she confirmed the same thing to me. :slight_smile: Does anybody know approximately how many people there are in each of HKU’s BBA program? Like for Marketing, around how many students each year?

@h1every01
Well, in terms of the Times ranking for engineering last year, NTU was 16 and HKUST was 20. I think both are good though. Maybe you might want to choose the one more recognized in your home country?

@unholygrail
I finished my alevels alredy :slight_smile: just got an email from nus yesterday asking me to go for an interview and manual dexterity test on the 16th…what a rush :S

Have finally made a decision. I’ll be studying QFIN at CUHK :)

@lovelylovelylady. Do you know when we are going to apply for housing and which college you are applying to?

@ganbaru: thx. I appreciate that. :)

If you was me, where will you choose?

@Christoffer
Umm nice. I paid my deposit to CUHK already and Im going there too~
Uhh housing? I don’t know…will they like, send you a package regarding all those details? One of my contact persons told me they will send me the package in June…which is kinda late…
By the way, are you gonna stay there for 3 years or 4? Do all internationals stay there longer?

@h1every01
Well I don’t know. I’ve studied in SG so I might choose HK for a different experience?!
And anyway, HK is 3 years and SG is 4 years… Not that I want to shorten my uni studies but I would like to come out to work earlier.
Btw, how did HKUST notify you? Email or your app status changed? I applied in early March but there has been no reply till now =(

@ganbura: my application was completed in end January. I was informed for an interview through email at mid Feb. I think that you should get a reply from them soon. :)

Just curious, you mind telling me what course you have applied in HKUST?

@loveylovelylady
Actually I have no idea what they’ll do. I’m pretty sure I’ll stay there for 3 years. Haven’t been told anything about an extra year, will you stay there for 4 years, or…?
When you paid the deposit, did you pay it in HKD or did you pay an amount of money that is equivalent to 10,000 HKD in Canadian Dollars? And will the 10,000 become a part of the first tuition fee payment?
Do you know if CUHK will help us with the visa application and when we are supposed to start that process?

I guess we’ll see each other next fall then :)

@ganbaru

those were my exact thoughts, even i thought that 3 years might be a little short, but oh well i guess it’s good to start work earlier. i’m in singapore right now too btw, except i’m going to hku next year not hkust
