@paul0730 You will probably know about your result in the next few weeks. If you don’t, you might want to phone up HKUST to check up on the situation (that’s what I did when I applied…haha). Good luck!

woah such early offers for you guys congrats :)

So I just found out HKU had lost my SAT scores and considered my app incomplete. The sent me a letter. (*** I live in another country. Why not just email) I responded and found out that they actually DID have my scores, they had just misfiled them. Has anything like this happened to anyone? If so, when did you receive a decision? I think I may have been moved into the Main Round even though this whole thing is entirely HKU’s fault…

@hulkhogan88888

Thanks for giving me this information! I totally agree with you. It looks like my chance of getting in HKU is very very low. Thank you for your honest response.
Very fortunately, I have also applied to other colleges in the US. I was not sure if I definitely wanted to come back to study in HK, that’s why I didn’t apply to CUHK, and now I am kicking myself and regretting it
To my surprise, colleges in the US don’t look so highly on SAT scores anymore, maybe also because I am a foreigner, having only come to the US for 4 years. So it’s actually easier for me to get into colleges in foreign land than in my home country…
Anyways, thank you for your insight! Out of curiosity, are you studying at a HK college right now?

No problem
Yap, I’m studying at HKUST right now haha

@hulkhogan88888

I heard that UST students work really hard. How many hours do you study outside classroom every week?

Ehh… I’m quite lazy…hahahahahha
However if you are talking about the general student at HKUST, then yes they are quite hardworking (HKUST is also known as the Hong Kong University of Stress and Tension haha). You would probably need to study at least 6-9 hours per week on each course that you take if really want that A+.

Hi!!

I submitted my additional documents for HKU on the 5th of December.

When should I be expected to hear from them???

And does anyone know the differences between 3year BA and 4year BA??

Thanks

Hi all!!
I really want to study in HKUST.
I submitted my application on 8th of December.

I got 83 on my TOEFL score (hope this is enough)

did anyone already receive an offer from hkust??

thanks!

hello So, did anyone get an offer under main round?

@futureceng What are your other scores like? A TOEFL score over 100 is the level at which you would probably be safer at.

Hello did anyone here apply for mbbs under fast track?

hi, anyone applied for BDS (international non-jupas)?

Hey guys and gals,

Applied to HKU for BBA IS and HKUST for BENG Computer Science

anyone know how intense the competition is for BBA (IS) in HKU, especially with their higher acceptance rate just for this year (OH YEA!) i really hope the competition is eased out.

and has any1 gotten any offers yet?

cheers

hey guys, I applied for BBA at both HKU and HKUST (my top two choices for schools in HK) and so far have been accepted into HKU and got a great scholarship offer from them. But my interview with HKUST is after the deadline to accept the scholarship from HKU. From what I’ve researched and heard from people, both schools are great for business. But I really need to decide whether to go ahead and accept this offer or hold out for HKUST.

I’ll be an international student (American), and I’m aiming for a reputable business program but with a good overall university experience too (diversity, social life, exchange opportunities, sports, etc…). And I also have a strong passion for languages. So with that in mind, which school is right for me??? Going crazy here.

Best of luck to everyone!! :)

It depends on whether you are also applying to other universities in the U.S. If you are, then go for whichever university (be it HKU or HKUST) you want. But if you are only applying to universities in HK, then the risks are too great, rewards too minimal.

hey everyone
i’m an int’l student and i applied to HKU and HKUST in December
i got a skype interview request last week and the interview’s scheduled for early Feb

i was wondering what questions they asked you
are the Q’s just the customary “why this uni, this program, your future…” stuff
or are they much more focused on the major and my aptitude/knowledge on the major??
my 1st choice was quantitative finance, btw
also, who are the interviewers? are they professors??

thanks!!!

@ragazzo1
Both schools are pretty good all rounded, but if languages is something in particular you want to pursue, HKU will def give you that edge, but you should be registering your courses since your first semester.

I disagree with paul’s comment on “risks are too great, rewards too minimal.” on the basis of experience/exposure vs. cost - since the words “risk” and “reward” were used in particular. Of course unless you are studying in an instate American college with state fees that might be a different thing.

One quick additional comment since I just flipped through briefly in the last few pages.
HKU’s Faculty of Medicine SELDOM admits Non-HKers into their programmes because they are primarily catered for the locals to serve the locals in the future. These programmes are heavily subsidized by the govn on its own, even if one is paying international fees it is still way below the cost of the programme

@arod920 Congrats on getting an interview! You will probably hear the customary stuff that you mentioned. What they are looking for is how you respond and incorporate your aspirations and knowledge into your answers; aka the type of answer that sets you apart from other candidates. Good luck!
