HKU or HKUST

Thanks hulkhogan ! I might do an MBA but I would like to work a few years after graduation as a chem eng.Btw, I got an extension till Feb. 10, so I guess I will look for more info. Although HKUST has an awesome program in chem eng (chem+biomolecular eng) ,HK does not seem to offer much scope for chem engineers :(

Hi may I know if anyone is transferring to Hkust this year and is an international student?

Im having difficulty maintaining a 32 :frowning: how is the city university or poly university in the event that I dont make requirements

@Daisyjude hey, im trying to transfer still waiting to see what happens

@Gordonho what is it you want to study?

@cayne92 me too, hv they replied you yet? ): When did u apply?

@daisyjude I sent my application around the end of december so I should get a reply before March ends. Which university are you in right now?

@shreeman3 I agree; Hong Kong does not present too many opportunities in chemical engineering. However, a lot of graduates don’t stay in Hong Kong. Instead they go up to the mainland to work (in areas like Chengdu) where they are an abundance of opportunities for people in chemical engineering. HKUST’s strength is that it’s close to China and that you can make the jump after you graduate (assuming you can speak Putonghua well enough).

@Gordonho I’m not sure as to what the requirements are for City U and Poly U.

@cayne92 I’m in a private school taking an university of London degree. U?

@cayne92 I want to study in business or a finance related area

Hi everyone!
I just found out a problem on my HKU application. I listed the 5-year-program of a joint degree of BA (literary studies) and bachelor of laws as my second choice. I am a non-JUPAS applicant and out of curiosity, I started looking for its website after I already appliced and I saw this: there is no quota for non-jupas student. Now I am freaking out because my third choice already rejected me and my first choice is a highly competitive program to which I know I have no chance of getting admitted. My only hope was an acceptance to this new 5-year-program and I just found out that they don’t have quota for Non-Jupas. What do you think I should do? Can I change my choice now?

And yet, the weird thing is, they listed that program(code 6078) under the non-jupas website and said that this program would not accept late non-jupas application after January 29. Can anyone familiar with HK universities enlighten me about this? Thanks :S

Hi All!
I’m an international applicant from New Zealand awaiting for my outcomes of applications to HKU & HKUST… Hopefully I’ll get good offers from HKU by the end of Feb 2012!
I applied to HKU for: 1st choice- Econ & Finance
I’m also an IB diploma candidate, finals May 2012 T^T

Just wondering, would a SAT II Math II 800 help??

@IheartPW

Oh yea! SAT II subject tests would always help, especially when you have accomplished such a high grade!

@Daisy Im in CityU at the moment

@gordon City is decent, the teachers are fine and if you work hard you can get a pretty nice Job in the business/finance area. Its not as good as HKU or HKUST but i would not say its bad.

The Caliber of the students here isn’t very high, which is bad because you need to work on projects with them and good at the same time because its easier for you to get a good grade.

I cant speak for Poly hope that helps.

@cayne92 Another question regarding the life at CityU are there many internationals studying there or is it just mainly local? Thanks!

For HKUST interviews, have any of you been questioned about actual academics? For example, if you applied to Chemistry, would the interviewers ask you to solve Chemistry problems at all?

^No they don’t. If they did then it would be called a “exam” instead of interview. My UST Chemistry interview was more related to “why” this and that and so forth.

^Thanks. That’s a real relief. A Korean univ called KAIST interviews using more exam-format. Completely did not expect it.

I was shocked when I saw this. For this serious matter, I think you should send an email to the Academic Services Office (admissions@hku.hk) (which office that I was always directed to while dealing with matters regarding supporting documents.)…
Try to argue that this is NOT YOUR FAULT… I cannot believe that HKU has done something like this…

Now, after doing more research on this, I am wondering that when they say “there are no quotas”, does that mean, there is not a limited/fixed numbers of non-jupas students they would take, or does that mean they don’t take non-jupas for the program at all. The wording is just ambiguous and confusing.
