HKU or HKUST

^Have you tried emailing them?

hey I have 8 As and 1B in O level and 4 A*s in A level…what are my chances of getting into HKUST?? Also what are the odds of getting a scholarship with these results? Thnx

Hey guys, I have a Skype interview with HKU in 3 days for BBA (IBGM). I would like to know what kind of questions do they normally ask?
Weirdly, I am a local non jupas student… and I am invited for a Skype interview, when HKU is just 15 minutes away from my school!
Thanks in advance :)

hello
I am an international student from Bangladesh. Recently I have completed my GCE A levels. Today I got a mail from hku ( Faculty of engineering-my first choice) for phone interview. Can you help me on what questions are asked in the interview? What are the chances of offering admission to the students getting an interview?
Please tell me something on this.Thank you

Hi everyone,
I applied to both HKU and HKUST for an engineering course. Though I do realize that ust would give me a better education in the field of engineering, I wanted to aim more towards a broader education that hku would provide me (I am constantly in touch with one of the employees and i already quite a bit of info about hku, i really like the number of electives you get etc).

So the problem is - hku starts releasing results next week (february 14th), but I might not get it that quickly. On the other hand, I already got an offer from hkust but it says that i need to make my mind by february 24th. What am I supposed to do? Go for ust even though I might still get an offer from hku, which is my first choice, or wait patiently and hope for the best?

And yeah, if someone else applied to either of those, share some info please <3

Guys! My SAT is around 2080, SAT subject test is 3*800s in Physics, Chemistry and math lvl 2. I am an international and my class rank is top 5%. I have won two national physics olympiad and a BRONZE MEDAL IN INTERNATIONAL PHYSICS OLYMPIAD. Wwhat do you think are my chances in HKUST with scholarships? My TOEFL score is 102.

Gozlen, Call HKU or Email them, tell them you have an offer from UST but HKU is is your first choice, they will probably speed up giving you an offer. These unis compete with one another for good students all the time. Plus im sure of you got into UST for Eng HKU will accept you anyways.

Titanium from what i know getting scholarships for engineering in UST is extremely difficult chances are slim.

^ I have applied for school of sciences not the engineering. And don’t you think a medal in International Physics Olympiad(IPO) will help me though?

@Ornima- hey I am from Bangladesh too and will be applying to HKUST. I think you have a pretty good chance of getting in as only shortlisted applicants are interviewd. As for what questions are asked in the interview I have no idea sorry. Btw do you mind sharing your stats?

@titanium sorry i assumed you applied for engineering i cant speak for the school of sciences, in any case the medal is good, but your SAT scores arent strong enough.

hey cayne, what if I have 4 A*s in Advanced levels instead of SAT. What chances do I have of getting a scholarship?

@smarthead I only know two people in UST who have scholarships in engineering. It depends on a lot of factors not just your grades. I have a friend who got a world distinction in GCE A level Further Maths and even he didnt get a scholarship for engineering, but another friend who has 5 A’s got in with a full scholarship. Overall their criteria is super random, and overall chances are slim no matter what kind of grades you get.

UST simply prefers IB over ap/gce. My conditional offer was simply to get 33 points (electrical engineering) with 5/5 in physhl and mathhl, but if i get 42 points (my predicted was 41) i will get a full 3-year scholarship (renewable that is). It is really biased towards the IB, but well… i can’t complain i guess, motivation to work harder for the rest of the year >.<

Hello,

I am going to have a phone interview for HKUST’s Global China Studies program on 22nd of February. I would like to know what kind of questions there will be. When will I understand the result from the interview?

Hi all,

I am thinking of going to any of the following 3 universities as a fee-paying/study-abroad student for fall 2012.

Chinese University of Hong Kong

City University of Hong Kong

Tsinghua University

I am currently enrolled in NTU’s Accountancy.

There are conflicting information on the ranking of these universities and should I rely on the overall or the business school ranking?

Is there a difference between going for an education in HK as compared to China?

Are there any difference between the 3 universities (in terms of environment, classmates, course matching etc)?

CUHK and Tsinghua seem to have lesser courses as compared to City Uni. City Uni offers interesting courses like forensic science etc.

Is there any way that I can obtain the courses offered for Fall 2012? I can only find the planned course offering for CUHK but not for City Uni and Tsinghua.

Weighing the cost, tsinghua is relatively cheaper than CUHK and City Uni.

Thanks for your help! :))

@smarthead-Hello.Good to hear from someone in home country.Thank you for telling that, though I am pretty afraid about the whole thing. Well my O level result was 8 A and 1 B and A level result- 2 A* and 3 A.I got 2270 in Sat II and 105 in Toefl ibt.
I also wished to apply in HKUST but they don’t offer bio medical engineering as an undergraduate course.
By the way, best of luck…:)

hey Anyone here , knows how do you manage Hostels after 2 years …cause HKUST does guarantee hostel for 2 years only for undergraduate international students

@petrovp
hi
i had my HKUST interview last week and i got my result in 2 days!
they asked me

 1. why do you want to leave your country and come to hong kong (i was an intl’ student)
 2. what kind of experience do you expect/wish to get from studying here
 3. why exactly did you choose this course
 4. what do you know about this course
 5. how would you describe yourself
 6. a rather specific question regarding major
 7. lastly, which other uni’s you applied to

that’s about it
good luck!

@imtitanium

hey that’s amazing!
a medal in the IPhO is a superb achievement
i think you have a real good shot at the scholarship; admission for sure
i think the site has a set criteria to give scholarships to silver and gold medalist applicants, but i’m sure a bronze will be considered as commendable

good luck!
