Thanks for your reply! I might just make it in with my IB 40. Fingers crossed.

Guys what do you think about the HKU Bachelor of Science Major in Mathematics, which I can specialize in Economics and Finance later??

^BSc in Math will have quite a lot of mainlanders. BEcon&Fin probably have more. you will face tougher challenges in terms of getting good grades if you’re to compete against them. I am not too familiar with the math program, but BEcon&Fin in HKU has some good lecturers/professors, but also a ton of terrible ones too. But out of the four “QUantitative” science majors (Statistics, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, and Mathematics), mathematics no doubt will be more oriented towards the “Pure” side. e.g there won’t be that much applied mathematics etc or like Financial/accounting math compared to the others.

So is it better to major in Statistics if I wanna involve in the financial sector? or with Mathematics specializing in Econ&Fin. Another thing is if I have my undergraduate at NUS or HKU is it possible to postgraduate in places such as UK, US or Aus?

hey, guys! I am just curious did anyone get an offer on the main round? Or maybe someone got rejected in 1 or 2 or 3 subjects?
I am going crazy, cause I got rejected with my 1st choice -LLB Law…but 2 and 3 choice are still under consideration…
does anyone got an offer from their 2 or 3 choice? I wonder if I have a chance in my 2nd and 3rd choices :)

@glgan1 you don’t specialize it in econ&fin… unless you want a dual degree or have additional minors. BEcon&Fin schedule is quite packed as the program itself (if im not mistaken) is a dual degree program with a Bachelor’s in Econ and a Bachelors (or minor) in Finance. You’re schedule will be really packed if you decide to do that.

I dont see why not internationals cannot get into postgraduate institutions. around 25% of the science faculty students in particular go to postgrad studies after graduations

@sorry I guess my message was misleading. [Faculty of Science, HKU - Major in Mathematics](http://www.scifac.hku.hk/ug/prospective-student/3-year/6901/mathematics) Regarding to the hku website, it stated:

Students may choose courses according to their aptitudes to specialize in the following areas: Pure mathematics; Computational mathematics, logistics and operations research; Economics and finance.

Anyway, for the postgraduate part, what I mean was does HKU/NUS’s undergrad degree recognized by UK/US/Aus uni? Because I decide to postgrad in these places such as Imperial, Warwick, Melbourne…etc universities…

Thank you.

Hi guys I’m wondering if any of you know of successful transfer cases into HKUST from a not-that-high-ranked US college?

^dunno about the chances, but i know that HOng kOng has this weird policy in which they defer transferees that have completed their freshmen year by repeating one year. eg transferees have to study from year one all over again and take 3 years (4 in case of next year) to graduate. This goes for all schools including HKU, HKUST, and CUHK. I know a couple of ppl who went to HKU and wanted to transfer into UST or CU, but they had to repeat year one all over again. weird.

Hi guys.
I have just recieved an offer from HKU for BBA/Acc. and need to reply them in 2 weeks.
However, I have already got an offer from CUHK BBA last month and have already paid for the deposit etc. etc.

So I am stucked here… which uni I should go for? Some say that for business, CUHK is better but overall ranking, HKU is better… Can you advice me on which uni I should go for?

Also, can I pay the deposit for HKU as well? Like is it illegal to accept more than 1 university’s offer by paying all of them deposits etc.?

Thanks!!!

^there’s nothing illegal for paying deposits for more than one school. a lot of intls do that if they get more than one offer from hong kong

Hello… i just received a conditional offer from HKU

B/c I applied to the 3 year BA program, is there a chance that HKU wants
to see my college transcripts???

@sciencespo what do u mean by college transcript? r u a transfer applicant? what was the conditional offer?

Well, this morning my application status changed to ‘conditional offer’. I have yet to receive a letter from the faculty. Im just worried that HKU might ask for a college transcript since the program is 3 years instead of 4. But I didnt apply as a transfer (although I stated on the application that I am currently attending uni)

^Congrats on the offer anyway though Were u relying on your high school scores on the application then? Using AP or IB?

just wondering if anyone has gotten into hkust for engineering with APs and SAT?

i also applied to hku and hkust. I got under consideration for all the majors in both university. All my friends who take engineering and business have got the offer from hkust. I chose Science, and I haven’t got anything from hku/hkust. i’m feeling so stressed for waiting those emails.

hi, does anyone know what hku consider for scholarship ?

i get in hkust by sat/ap

^extracirrics and academics. And when I say academics u better be like at least top in what u get. Hku considers ur academics more than extracirrics
