4 year BEcons/BEcons&Fin is a double major while 3 years course is a major and a minor. You have to earn 240 credits in a 4year course while 180 in a 3year . That actually depends on the faculty what they put you in . I hope workload of econs is manageable I want to enjoy my youth as well :D

UnLucky06, my source is actually the 3-year programme: http://www.fbe.hku.hk/Programme/Undergraduate/doc/1112/BEconFin.Syllabuses.11-12.pdf
so Economics and Finance are double-major course either in 3-year or 4-year programme.

@Socrates & readyyourgun can you share your stats ? Dont feel offended i am just freaking out :(

@Naninani You’ve made the right choice if you are coming to HKUST to study business. :)

Just finished the interview from hkust. I was so nervous and just kept saying yeah, yeah… i seemed to talk too much about my weakness and does that hurt? It lasted only 20 minutes(too short?). Do u think i have any chance?

^20 minutes is fine. What program did you apply to?

@revealspec
I applied to Global China Studies, a new interdisciplinary major since 2011.

@KennethLee: Thanks for your info lol
@UnLuck06: I am applying as transfer applicant…GPA>3.8

@unlucky06: mine’s a* to c for a level. what’s ur status?

@xm9413 If you have gotten an interview, it usually means that they want you and will give you an offer. The interview is just so that they get to know you better. Good luck nonetheless!

@chinu19, r u a snr or freshman? ^^ wat course u taking

@Naninani : I’m a senior. Going to be completing my last year at HKUST this September. I am a BBA Marketing/Econ major.

coooolll, ^^ im taking ecof, any advice on how to get an awesome internship!? xD where r u planning to work ltr on??

Hey everyone
I’m a student in AUS who’s thinking of applying to HKU for next year.
I just have one question I would like to ask. According to the website they said they would take more international students for this year. Does this only apply to this year or will it be the same case for next year?

@Naninani Just work hard on getting good grades - that’s the key to landing good internships. Networking with companies/people is also important. I’m not sure where I plan on working yet. Where are you from? From what I know, there are few international students in Ecof. It’s mostly filled with locals and a lot of mainlanders.

@DYHAHA Only this year.

Oh okay. How difficult is it for an international student to get into HKU or HKUST with an Australian qualification?

@chinu19: **** LOL oh man, is it still possible to change to smth like bba glob biz?! the curves gonna be so ugly if its filled w mainlanders :OOOO
hmm then when do we get to network w the companies? ^^ im frm thailand!

@DYHAHA I didn’t take the australian pattern so I don’t know. Maybe someone can help you out here https://www.facebook.com/groups/379487995249/. It’s a facebook group for future international students at HKUST.

@Naninani You can change to global business after the Fall semester (if you are in the 3-year program) or after Year 1 (if you are in the 4-year program). Global Business is also competitive though. I heard that the cutoffs last year was A.

Don’t worry about swapping yet! You may just enjoy ECOF and do brilliantly at it
Also, there may be more internationals in the program this year.

@Naninani The business school at HKUST provides students with many opportunities to meet companies either through recruitment talks on campus, joining workshops, competitions, etc. Get to know senior students! Especially those in your program. They can help you.

Thanks for the reply. One more questions, if I want to do something related to management what courses should I consider? Also what are some less competitive courses?
