Hi everyone. I have got an offer from CUHK Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm). Actually this is my second degree since I applied as a degree holder. Let me introduce myself, I am a final year student of HKUST biochemistry. My GPA is not good and is only slightly above 3. I never tell anyone including my friends in HKUST about my application since I think it is very ridiculous for me to apply pharmacy because of my poor result. And I know one of my classmate who also study biochemistry and a friend who study chemistry also apply pharmacy and both of them have much better academic record. They both got an interview in December 2011 but I did not. So I think my chance is already very low. However, I am invited to the interview just after my final exam in HKUST. I think this may be my only chance since I have also applied other medical related degree in HKU but receive no reply. Though I got an interview, I never expect anything since CUHK Pharmacy is very competitive and I was finding other back-up plan. But today morning, miracle was come and a conditional offer is given to me. Unbelievably, my condition is only cGPA above 3 and shows the proof of graduation and work experience. I think why I can get an offer is because I was working in Prince Wales hospital CUHK medical faculty for part-time every Saturday!! I was afraid to tell my friend that I have got an offer because it seems that he hasn’t got it. And he always says thinking ways to perform better in examination is the only useful way to increase chance of admission. I think he is only partially correct because I think working experience is also very important for an applicant who possesses a degree. Now I have proved that I am correct!! But now feel a bit sorry to him since I never tell my friend that I have applied CUHK BPharm and working in Prince Wales hospital for part-time, and being a pharmacist is his dream since many years ago…… But I feel excited more than anything now because of the wonderful offer of Pharmacy!! I would tell him when I am psychologically prepared!

I am sorry for talking a lot of rubbish because I am very excited now! And I would like to ask anyone here would also study pharmacy in CUHK this September?

@NFkappaB
Hi, are you a local student? And in Hong Kong, is pharmacy school an undergraduate program rather than a graduate one like in America? You said BPharm, so I got curious… And also, are there specific courses required to get into Pharm programs in HK?

i got both hku n hkust, i chose hkust, i dun realli wanna say this but…
i think hku is rather inefficient?
i applied to hku during the early decision period(decision is out by dec), i personally flew to hku to hand in my supporting documents in november, in january, i received i letter from hku saying they lost my supporting docs (a few friends of mine also have the same experience)
and demand me to send the docs again, and state that they r moving me to the main round since no supporting docs,
i was upset so i emailed them my hkust offer letter, three days later i recieved an offer email from hku…

urm tats supposed to be a reply to i3monpi

hi guys, is there anyone still waiting for the decision from any university in hong kong? i’m waiting for results from either hku or cuhk. is there still any chance of me being admitted? getting extremely anxious here. also, what do u think of city university? i applied to that uni quite recently, and got a conditional offer. should i accept it?

Hi, I am waiting for HKU too! Which major did you apply?
I think City university is not as good as HKU/CUHK/UST

@socrates94,readyyourgun
Even I am waiting for Hku/CUHK .
I agree with readyyourgun CityU is not as good ,it is for the local people over there .
I recieved an offer letter from the hongkong polytechnic university but i am going to decline it soon.
I applied for majors in economics .
My Friends who are currently studing in HongKong told me that Only hkust and hku are good for international students in hongkong . CUHK is not so diversified .
PolyU and CityU are for mediocre(60%) hongkong students and it lacks opportunities.

Is anyone here a late applicant for HKU?
I applied for FBE btw.

@chemically
I applied as a late applicant, still havent had a word with the faculty .
The wait is freaking me out .
what majors have you applied for , when did you apply ?

Sent everything in two weeks ago
pretty late.
IBGM, Econ/Finance, Accounting/Finance
What’d you apply for / When’d you apply?

You think it’s true that late applications are mostly to fill up
spots if people don’t meet their conditional offers / or reject their offers?

I have applied for Econ&Fin and BBA (A&F) though ill reject hku’s offer if i get admitted to bba because I want to go in the field of economics (in my opinion you should do what you are best at and not settle for the latter.)
I applied in late march but I sent all my documents in early june.
I do not think that late applicants have lesser chance by any case if your grades are extraordinary you will be offered a place real quick if not you will be put on the waiting list.
seeing that application to FBE are still open I feel we stand a chance.
Hku is building new campus an it is still in process maybe thats why FBE responses are delayed .Semester starts from 17th sept dont you think its late ?
what we can do is hope for the best join a university in our home country and try again this year as transfers students .
if you cannot wait or have recieved an offer you can contact the faculty for early consideration.
Hope this helps :)

Thanks UnLucky06 for the explanation!
Sept 17 is pretty late.
I thought HKU gives offers till August because it started in August.
I think I’m going to wait for a response since I still have time.
Does the status update website (HKU) ever mention “wait-list” as opposed to “under-consideration”?

Yes you can wait for a response but keep your options open .
Hku gives offers to international student till mid - july giving us time to apply for the students visa.
I dont think so ,they do not update it to wait list though you can check other forums .
Do you mind sharing your stats ?

Is it possible to major in finance in a normal BBA instead of opting for BBA accounting and finance ?

Unlucky06, my senior said that it is possible for us to switch our major after we get into HKU, but it will depend on our result…
For your question about majoring finance in BBA…I think it will be better if you email FBE and ask them directly, but I think it will take some time for them to reply to your email…

thanks for the info, @readyyourgun and @unlucky06!
@readyyourgun: i’m applying for econ and finance. what about u?
@unlucky06: do u have any idea on late applicants’ chance for cuhk? i just applied two weeks ago

Kenneth i better check this up with the faculty .Do you mind sharing your stats ? which country are you from ?
@socrates 94 - unfortunately I am not from the admission department :P

haha. just wondering. u seem to know a lot. lol

@socrates94: I am applying accounting & finance
@unlucky06: For your question abt majoring finance in BBA, the possibility is kinda low. From what I know, in BBA(Acc&Fin), accounting is the major while finance is only the minor. This is also the same for BEcon&Fin, where economics is the major and finance is the minor.
There was a program called “Bachelor of Finance” before, but HKU is no longer offering this program anymore. So I think you can only take finance as minor… Anyway, it will be better if you ask the faculty directly, since they are now adopting a new curriculum.
Did you apply HKUST as well? They offer finance major in BBA.

readyyourgun, I think Economics and Finance is a double-major course, isnt it??
I have read through the course syllabus from the FBE website and they list the course requirement as first major: Economics and second major: Finance…that’s why I think Economics and Finance is a double major course.

There is also a course call Bachelor of Science (Quantitative Finance), it sounds like it is a course specifically designed for finance major students right??

You can check for its detail information from the website below: http://www.fbe.hku.hk/Programme/Undergraduate/index.cfm?page=BSCQFIN
