HKU or HKUST

^dude…

it says “characters” not “words”. 4000 characters is more like 400 words.

Hi I’m a local non-jupas student applying for HKU for quantitative finance or economics&finance.

My highest SAT was 2110 (Reading 630, Writing 690, Math 790), SAT 2 (Math II-780, Math I-730, Bio-620), Toefl iBT 114, 5 on AP Calculus BC, and 4 on AP English Language.

Any chance for me to get selected into Quantitative Finance? I heard it’s pretty competitive.

Also, how important is the second language requirement (in a language other than english)? I’m pretty bad at chinese so AP chinese sounds pretty challenging to me. I also missed the opportunity to take the SAT chinese language test. I can’t take the HSK because I’m a local Hong Konger. What other tests can I take to meet this requirement?

^ in at E&F. I hear that course is horribly easy to get into.

2nd Lang requirement is a >requirement< so I’m guessing not meeting it is bad. Since you’re a local HKer…I guess you speak Cantonese, so wouldn’t that fulfill it?

Hello I’m from Tunisia , I applied in the early decision period , i have 17 on a 20 point scale in high school , what do you think of my chances in HKUST?

Hi I’m thinking of applying to HKU for Engineering.
My GCSE O’ Level results were
Maths-A
Physics-A
Chemistry-A
Pure Maths-A
Biology-A
English-B

and my GCE A’ Level results were
Maths-A* (97.8%)
Chemistry-A (91.8%)
Physics-A (80%)
Further Maths-A (80%)

I haven’t got much ECAs…any chance of me getting into HKU?
I’d would be really glad if anyone can help me

^ You’re in. End of story.

Lol thanks! Just hope you turn up to be right though.

Hey I am currently doing IB and my predicted is 41/45
Math HL-7
English SL-6
Hindi HL-7
Economics SL-7
Physics HL- 6
Chemistry HL-6
TOK/CAS-2/3
I have applied for both HKUST and HKU early decision for engineering as my first choice, economics as my second and business management as third in HKU and engineering as my first choice and business management as my second in HKUST.
Apart from that I have work experience from Mahindra World City, and a few other certificates of voluntary work and community service. Also I am the head of Entrepreneur Club and I think my referee has given good recommendation about me. I am giving TOEFL in December, I don’t know how much I will score but lets see. I want to know what are my chances of getting in these universities.

Hi guys, I got a email today from HKU and it said to conduct a telephone interview. Did anyone else got it? What to expect in interview? questions which they can ask? How important are interviews? Anybody please help me out. :D

@radhikashukla

You’re in for engineering. Engineering is dreadfully easy to get into.

@ahtesham, I’ve got the same email today. What date did you select?
Btw, is it good to have been asked for an interview?

@zeust00 I give them 6th December PM date for interview. I think its good to have interview. Its a chance to get personal with Admission officers :D

Is the engineering department of HKU good? Are all their degrees accredited? I saw on the website of HKIE that the electrical engineering degree of HKU is accredited until the intake year of 2012. So does this mean that from 2013 it won’t accredited anymore? Does anyone have any clue about it?

Hey I did not get an Interview call as of yet, I had 15 subjects in my GCE OLevel and had 14 A’s out of them with 10 of 'em A*‘s. I have a decent GCE A Level Transcript and Expected Grades. I applied for Engineering. Am I Ditched? :’(

HKUDreamer, maybe you’re too good to be asked for an interview. :)

Naah, One of my friends has the almost the same results but topping it all he has an SAT 2 Score of 2390 n he got an interview call. :(

Well, maybe they’re asking students in chunks. Anyway, I was wondering that it’s very early for an interview. I mean it’s been just 2 weeks since the 15th November.
Your friend got an email for an interview or got an interview call directly?

@HKUDreamer it is clearly stated on HKU website that it will take interview for some applicant not all. Maybe your course didn’t requires interview. Although i can be wrong but i think you should check by emailing them. :D

I have applied to CityU as a back-up to HKU and HKUST since my family plans to shift to HK next year. What are generally the conditions that CityU give to fulfill??

I had 9A’s 2B’s in the GCE A levels from pakistan (physics, chemistry, math, economics, marine science, business studies, psychology, geography, sociology, urdu ,accounting)…sat1 2190 …though i had registered for the A levels privately i.e was not appearing from school for the A levels public examination which i had left due to personal reasons but was head boy when at school …though the school councellor has willingly provided me with recommendations and will send the application for HKU through school…does it affect my chance of acceptance or entrance scholarship? because i did my A levels privately and so wont be able to provide any school transcripts to HKU but just the GCE public examinations results of A levels …though did my O levels from school…
