HKU or HKUST

I’m from Pakistan, but didn’t take A/O levels.

@ausomeness Wow! man seriously 11 subjects in A Level. You are probably in. There aint a problem for your reference letter. I think HKU will recognize your home schooling during A Level :D

Hi, i just saw that hkust has reviewed all my documents except for my Personal statement and CV. though they sent me a e-mail to upload my official undergraduate transcript as i am transfer student. Do you guys think that they r taking my application seriously as i applied early decision and i am from nigeria. I just uploaded the transcript about 20minutes ago, and I am applying for engineering. Also, will a few bad grades hurt my chances of entry or funding? Thanks

@ahtesham :bro economics and accounting were from school BSS…the rest private …but do u think that will score me a high merit scholarship at hku for mech engg? and obviously the acceptance

^I think you will be accepted. I am from Roots DHA btw and too applied for mech engineering  Lets see what HKU do to us

Hi, I’m from Spain and I have applied to HKU and HKUST through fast-track for the engineering programme.
I’m taking both the Spanish National Curriculum (I have a really good GPA) and the IB (predicted score 39/45):
Physics HL - 6
Maths HL - 5
Catalan A1 HL - 7
English B SL - 7
Philosophy SL - 6
Chemistry SL - 6
Bonus points - 2/3
I’ve also taken TOEFL iBT and scored 103/120 (R-27, L-25, S-24, W-27).
I don’t have many extracurriculars, I’m just taking Chinese (2 years) and I’ve done some voluntary work and community service, I’m a member of my hometown’s Rotaract club and I’ve organized some events for my school and stuff. I’ve been awarded with some scholarships to study abroad in summer these last two years and I got second place on an English contest in my region.
Do I stand a chance if I want to get in any of these universities? Because I’ve read that there’s a lot of competition this year and they are both really demanding.

I’ve a telephone interview arranged with HKU on December 6, so I’m quite nervous about what they will ask and stuff. One of the HKUST international admissions member team asked me some questions about the Spanish Curriculum last week but I haven’t heard anything else since then. Do they usually arrange interviews as well?

Hi, I’m from India and I have applied to HKU and HKUST through fast-track for the engineering programme.
I’m taking the IB (predicted score 41/45):
Physics HL - 6
Maths HL - 7
Hindi SL - 7
English Lang and literature SL - 6
Economics SL - 7
Chemistry SL - 6
Bonus points - 2/3
I will give TOEFL in December
I have a few extra co curricular. I have work experience of one month from Mahindra World City. I have my poem(in English) published in one of the national dailies. I have a few voluntary work and community service. Also I have achievements in science quizzes and debates. I am the head of Entrepreneurship club of my school. I am pretty sure I have good recommendation from my academic counsellor. What are my chances of getting in?

Hey everyone! I’m from India and have applied to both HKU and HKUST for their engineering programmes using CBSE as the basis for fast track admission.
I’m worried as I haven’t gotten an interview call from either yet. :expressionless: Is it easy for Indian students to get a conditional offer?
Looking forward to an active discussion on this thread!

@Radhika - I think you have a pretty good shot at UST & HKU with your IB score. Do you mind sharing your SATs?

@Ahtesham Congrats bro! All the best for the interview. Please update info about your interview as soon as it’s over.

@thunderboltsid Thanks man and surely i will. Just hoping will it be good enough :D

@ahtesham Don’t worry much over it…Just stay poised and confident and you’ll rock the interview. Also demonstrate some interest in the university when it’s your turn to ask questions. Don’t hesitate asking questions on housing and boarding etc. All these show your interest in the university. Hope you get selected.

@Ababio Hope is your best ally.

@Ahtesham - Are you applying to other universities apart from those in HK?

@thunderboltsid Thanks for the relief mate! yeah i am also having Oxford interview in 3 hours  and also applying for US… well i will go for HKU if got handsome scholarship over there… US app suxxx its too damn tough to get into US IMO

How did Oxford interview go? What did they asl? I’m having a slight affinity towards US education model because of its flexibility. I’m not sure if Hong Kong’s education model is flexible.

@thunderboltsid Don’t really wanna talk about Oxford right now… My head is burning in flames… Screwed up interview… Well lets see Whats up with you… Hows HK unis app

@ahtesham - submitted UST today, will submit HKU by tomorrow. Thinking whether to apply to CUHK or not. Your suggestions?

Umm, I did not give SATs…IB students don’t require SATs until and unless you are not applying to US, which I am not. We have to get a minimum 5/7 in english. It is clearly shown on the HKUST website. I hope not having SAT score does not become a disadvantage for me. :(

Well if it’s mentioned on UST website then it shouldn’t be a concern. I

I wanted to ask how long can we write on our resume or Cv??? ( in character and line limit)
