Hi I am from Malaysia , my forecast result in Cie A level is 3 As…

I plan to apply for degree in economics in HKu

@BRYANilu Website didn’t gave any limits but i have heard its 4000 characters.
@thunderboltsid Wow! good luck and I think you should give it a shot… But i have heard from a HK resident that only HKU and UST are good enough to study there at HK, “Rest are craps” these were his words.

Hey people! Does anybody what is the format of the interview (faculty of engineering HKU)?
Also UST will release decisions from mid-December. Did they call anybody for an interview?

@hkusthku I also have my interview up in 2 days. I also had applied for engineering. Check out this post. It is a post in this thread of i think earlier pages.
**Hi guys,
I just finished my phone interview with HKU
2 Professors were interviewing me at the same time.
Unlike what i expected, the phone- interview was rather chill.
They were not negative nor bombastic(?) at all…
and the interview lasted only 5? or 7 minutes. It was extremely short !
For those who may be interested in preparing for interview,
I will list down some of my questions.

) You live in ____. Is there any reason why you are currently staying there?
*) Living alone? or with your family?
*) Studying in Hongkong means you have to be apart from your family. Do you have any experience of living alone?
( questions are for those who are currently studying in another school)

2) Why did you choose to study in HK? (typical…)
3) Any preferences in HKU? Any reasons for applying HKU? (Typical…)
4) Why this major? specifically? (typical… mine was engineering)
5) planning to earn master degree or start working after grad?
6) Have you applied any other schools in HK? (causing dilemma… ‘Should I be honest? or flattering?’ I chose to be honest, and said i got a conditional offer from HKUST…)
6-1) What is conditional offer like?

and that was the end of the interview…
I recommend you to prepare for general questions… And you will be fine… (at least for engineering) They certainly did not ask about any technical questions -_- haha… that will be very scary…
I asked when I can hear the decision, but I barely understood them because of bad signal, and their Chinese accent. Anyways, hope this can help some of people here.!! Gluck**

wow thanks for the details on ur interview

@hkusthku, as ahtesham said the interview is gonna be chill. I had my interview yesterday, it was very relaxed. Very general questions. NO ACADEMIC QUESTIONS
About HKUST, I emailed them to let me know the details of admission procedure, lets see what’ll they say…

@athesham and zeust00: Thanks Guys! I was a bit nervous because the confirmatory email that I received from HKU said “Be available and PREPARED for the interview” and the faqs section on HKU International also mentioned “interview/test”. So I thought maybe they would ask some kind of academic questions. Btw if you guys get into HKU and HKUST both, which one would you prefer over the other. I mean HKUST has a beautiful campus and, if I am not wrong, is also ranked higher than HKU. HKUST, however, gives scholarship only for the first year and then scholarship for the following years depends on how well you do in exams and the max you get from second year onwards is 40%. I know someone who was offered scholarship for entire duration of study at HKU!

hkusthku,
Okay, I’ve heard about many students getting full scholarship at HKU while there are only few people getting full scholarship at HKUST. I’m just telling about what I have seen, not what is reality, which may be something quite different.

HKUST’s campus is just awesome. :)

About ‘which would I choose’ totally depends upon the fact where I’d get more (actually 100%) scholarship. HKUST is quite competitive, so maybe I don’t get a chance there.
In case I get in both, I’ll have to decide seriously, which I haven’t done for ages :)

Does anybody know what’s the deadline for the HKU entrance scholarship application?

@marta1116 its 15th Jan i guess and scholarship application is with your application so don’t worry i am sure you will see that section whenever you pay their app fee. There is no seperate essay or anything required just simple general questions
@zeust00 HAhaha Really same here i will also first compare scholarship package from both if i get accepted
@hkusthku Well IMO i will choose HKU. Zuest00 is right no doubt HKUST has a beautiful campus and a well ranked STEM department but HKU is closer to city and it has more diverse courses(If you are not considering just to study science or engineering) but again it is my opinion and i think you should compare both unis and then decide :D

ahtesham,
“HKUST is a bit away from city”…I was gonna say that. But then thought i shouldn’t scare others that much
I heard that you wouldn’t have any access to subway train system as well if you have to go from hostel to the campus. But that only applies if the hostel you’re given is off campus.
Also, the residence hall for freshman / students is pretty awesome too and it’s pretty close or on campus, I don’t remember correctly
Also, let’s not get ahead of ourselves and wait for decision first :)

hkusthku and others who applied and me,
let’s hope for the best !!! :D

Hello marta116! I am just like you! have applied for engineering and HKU (and HKUST too) and am having my interview at december 6 2012, at 3:50pm HK time, whats your time of interview?

I have not gotten any interview notification. Does dat mean I my application is not being considered. I am a transfer student, and I fear that my professor wrote me a recommendation letter saying that I am going for a postgraduate program, instead of undergraduate bcos she wass not patient enough to listen to me. I just submitted my transcript last week thursday, but i applied early decision. do u guys know what is wrong. Thanks

DO all ur documents show"file reviewed" or just “file saved”, because my personal statement, CV and undergraduate transcript only show “file saved”. Please i need answers to both questions, as I am really bothered.

btw, i applied to hkust engineering. Sorry for posting 3 messages

Ababio,
I have applied to HKUST too but haven’t heard from them yet. So maybe there’s nothing wrong to your application. Let’s just be more patient.

@Danny94 Hey dude mine is on 6th December 3:30pm so i guess they are gonna take your interview after me. Good Luck fella

You guys…this thread is really impressive and it seems like a lot of you with high qualification are interested in HKU and HKUST…I have to say it makes me really nervous about the competition (@~@)
I am applying for HKU BBA and CUHK Integrated Business Study and some business related major in HKUST…I am wondering if someone could gauge my situation here…I would really appreciate it…
So first of all…I am a gap year student. I graduated this may from an international school in Singapore…
I have a Bilingual IB Diploma on Chinese and English. My total is 39 including bonus.
Other test results are as follow:
SAT reasoning 1980 with CR 630
SAT math II 800
TOEFL IBT 107/120

2 part time and 1 full time work experience, the later was major related
1 internship to be taken in Spring 2013
foreign exchange to Ladakh India
Some school’s ECA like rock band, choir, language club, MUN, peer mentor, etc.

I am still taking another TOEFL test in Dec. (close to the end-of-the-world day) hoping to get a 110+ score to enhance my chance,
as well as another SAT reasoning in Jan.

I would appreciate if anyone could examine my chance of acceptance…
Would a gap year hurt my application??? This is the part I worry the most…

THanks and Regards
Gale

@ahtesham Well I applied through fast-track but still haven’t submitted the scholarship application because by now I don’t have any offer from other universities, so I didn’t know if it would be a good idea to do it without that.
@Danny94 my interview is arranged at 2:50 pm HK time, so I guess a lot of people here have the interview around the same time tomorrow.
Good luck to everybody who has the interview tomorrow!

@marta116 Hey i really think you should fill it out as soon as possible as your scholarship notification will be in a month. Good Luck with interview :D
