@marta116, please post ur interview questions as soon as u get over with it. me and ahtesham will be glad to know… Thank you!

Just got selected for Buffalo’s B.S Computer engineering, any idea when UST, HKU decisions for regular applicants come out?

Well I’ve already finished the interview and I think I screwed it…
The questions asked were:
Can you introduce yourself?
Why do you want to study in HK?
Why are you interested in Civil Engineering? (in my personal statement I said that I was interested in that major)
What physics topic do you like the most?
Do you know what stress and strain means?
What quantity relates them both? (this killed me)
They asked some more specific questions that I truly didn’t know and then I was able to formulate some questions and that was all.

So basically there was one teacher and I didn’t think he’d ask so many specific questions, so I think I blowed up my chances on getting into HKU. Or at least I hope the interview is not that important overall…
Gluck to the rest of you!

@thunderboltsid they told me that HKU fast-track results would be available by January 10. HKUST results eill be available from December 15 onwards I believe

Woah, I didn’t think the questions would be that specific :S Now I’m kind of nervous

Good Luck to the rest for their interviews!

@marta1116, my interview was much the opposite of yours, they asked me:
-introduce urself
-why HK
-do u know someone in HKU
-(I have applied after completing my GCE A’ level) what are u doing nowadays after completing A’ level
-after study will u work at HK
-(I wrote that i am interested in machinery and planes) what machines interest u
-how does a plane land and reduce the upthrust, and that’s it.
I wasn’t asked anything in physics or math. by the way the quantity that relates stress and strain is Young’s modulus.

Hey guys @Danny94 @Aphrodite95 @marta1116 My interview went good they asked me:
_Introduce yourself
_What are doing nowadays after finishing A Levels
_Do you know anyone at HKU
_What engineering you like to study(I said mechanical)
_Why mechanical(i said i love machines and i would like to know more about their working and research new ones)
_What machine you like most(I said Car engine)
_Can you explain how that works( I gave him a lil note about it and i think he got a idea that i know about it)
_Why HKU
_Have you applied to other universities( I said no but maybe apply to US)
_Any questions you want me to ask( I asked him 3 questions about HKU life)
_Thank you thats it

I think it was good overall. btw i didn’t expect he will ask me about the working of car engine but i still managed to answer. :D

@Thunderboldsid Congrats on getting in Buffalo. I know you will be receiving lots of more acceptances Hey man i think it will be in end of the February.

@ahtesham hey do u mind telling me ur A level result? what did u score and in what subjects?

@Ahtesham thanks bro! I hope you’re right, Congrats on getting the interview right. Hope you get selected for HKU :)

ahtesham, marta1116, danny94,
Well your interviews are so much same
Well mine was almost same, except that I wasn’t asked for specific questions.
Regarding that they asked what field I prefer. (I told them E.E and M.E)
Well then I started describing that I have an inclination of doing a doctorate as well etc. They were like “Hmmm, I seeeeeee…”
So now that I think about it after looking at how your interviews went, I think I played a trick on them that hindered them to ask anything else
Hahahahahahaha…
Btw, my interview was on December 3rd, and two faculty members took it.

@Danny94 Hey my A Level score is Physics A,Chemistry A,Mathematics A, Business studies A, Urdu A and Economics B :-(

So what are my chances?

IB Diploma candidate.

Predicted score 42/45 IB points

Physics HL -7

Maths HL - 6

Economics HL - 7

Spanish AB initio - 7

Chemistry SL - 6

English A Lang and Lit - 6.

EE + TOK - 3

SAT score - 2390 though its not required of me so I wont be sending it.

TOEFL - not giving since I already fulfill the SAT, IB English, and IGCSE English requirements therefore I am exempt from HK universities and all other universities in Canada, and the US.

Also, I like to think Im pretty good at writing and my community service/ other Extracurriculars are fantastic but I dont know, thats just what I think.

Also, I wont even be applying if I get accepted EA or ED to UChicago or Brown University respectively but after those HKUST is my top choice and I dont really like HKU.

Oh and Im applying for CS or Electrical Engineering.

One more question. How is the food for Hindu’s there? you get food other than beef right?

@jackrabbit420 Hey there, You have pretty good chances at HKUST. Is that SAT 1 or SAT subject score? If it is SAT reasoning then i must say you have a solid chance at Brown or Chicago You have good IB score so i think you can get in. Good Luck :D

wha were urr grade ahtesham…

@hkuadmission See post no 4412

Thats SAT 1.

I dont know. when the admission rate is as low as 8% then I guess it really is in the hands of the gods.

Co incidentally, Brown’s motto is “In God we trust”

@jackrabbit hahaha, true. I hope you get in. Good luck and do PM me your admission decision. :D

@jackrabbit420 I’ve got almost exactly the same subjects as you (lower grades though). Applying for mechanical. U shud easily get into UST with you grades. Don worry about the food, my parents are vegetarian and we’ve lived in China for 5 years without any food probs. I’d imagine HK is similar if not better. I wouldn’t say you’ll have a wide variety to choose from but you’ll survive.

I sent my application to HKUST yesterday. Wish me luck. I’ve been having problems paying for my HKU application though, I’ve tried about 7 different credits cards and they reject every single one! Has anyone else had any probs paying online for HKU. Btw payed for CUHK and HKUST with the same credit cards.

pisking,
I had that problem for HKUST, tried a lot of cards but no luck. I emailed them like 20 times, and they were like what the hell is this guy.
Anyway, then I get a hold on international card of a relative of relative of my father’s. Thus made the payment. It was pretty annoying thing for me.
I also had the problem that the card I used for HKU and CUHK wasn’t working for HKUST. In you case its HKU, but just try an international card, which has already been used for “international online transactions etc.”
