zuest00,
thts nice to know. thanks for your reply! its a shame it happened with HKU cuz HKU is the uni i’m most likely to enter. Don think I’ll make it to HKUST unless i’m incredibly lucky.

I just applied to HKU! Grrrr I hope I get in!

1st choice BBA (Law)
2nd choice IBGM
3rd choice Government & Law

I might be a tad crazy XD Good luck everyone!

ahtesham i am from islamabad…
do u think so ii will get an interview call…
i have 2As and 1B in my AS level…
my predicted grades are 2A* and 1A

hello any1 there…

@hkuadmission I think you will get a call. I am not sure but IMO you have pretty good grades for HKU. Good luck and remember it won’t be the end of the world if you get a rejection please just face it because i have seen many;)

okk thhaankkksss

has anyone heard from HKUST, as regards admission or interviews? Thanks

Well, not from HKUST, but I just got an email from HKPolyU for interview. Anyone has any idea about their interviews???

@Zeust. U r really an hong kong lover. U basically applied to all the unis in HK. Am i right? I guess we still have to be patient with HKUST even after applying early decision. But, I recall dat dey say that results would start to be announced as from 15th. I hope we get an admit

Ababio,
It’s just a gamble. I’m tired of applying US and Ivy’s. I can’t go to Japanese Uni’s (they’re awesome for mecha-tech), but can’t take Entrance test for them and their scholarship schemes seem pretty complex too. Thus HK universities :)

HKUST [A pure gamble]
HKU [A bit low-level gamble]
CUHK [A bit more low]
HKPolyU [No idea why I applied, don’t even know whether they provide scholarship or not]

Btw, I have applied to NTU as well. Though, haven’t heard from them. [Ignored flawlessly] :D

@Zeust, nice one. I am actually applying as a transfer student from Nigeria, coz I really dont feel that I have learnt much from my education here in Electrical Engineering. I chose HKUST coz their application process is quite straight forward, unlike many other places. Why do u refer to HKUST as a pure gamble? Is it that difficult to get into? and BTW, what major r u applying for?

Ababio,
Because anyone who thinks of going to Hong Kong for studying applies to HKUST and because HKUST is ranked FIRST in Asia. So it’s natural to become competitive. Well, I have pretty awesome marks for my study curriculum (91%) and I also have good SAT, SAT 2 scores. But still getting to a university as good as HKUST is always a gamble.

My major is Engineering, electrical or mechanical.

And yeah, some senior students (my acquaintances) told me that a person having grades as good as I have won’t gain much here (in Pakistan). That’s the reason I’m applied to even HKPolyU [It maybe below HKUST, but still better than what I would have in my country]

Ok I know that I should probably start a new thread for this but I don’t think that it will gain much attention, I see that this thread is very much alive.

I am from Indonesia, and currently an Junior in HS currently studying in a Canadian international school in China, this is my first year here, I just moved from Jakarta and I took my IGCSEs in Grade 10 there. Here they teach the curriculum of British Columbia. I had even done a bit of research on McGill’s, Alberta and SFU. But whenever I think about Canada, I think about the expensive airfare, cost of living, how far away it is from my family and especially the time difference. Even my parents think so. So, I stumbled upon HKU’s website and I’m slowly contemplating applying to HKU next year in Grade 12 as my first choice uni coz its really prestigious and close to home. I am interested in applying for Arts (French) or Journalism. So, I have a few questions:

Does HKU look at ALL your grades or is it like the Canadian system where they look at only your grade 12’s? My grade 10 marks sucked balls (74), but my term 1 average this year is 86 (canada curriculum is so much easier), and it will only get better.

Do they look at your ECs? I had few ECs, but nothing standout.

How competitive is HKU Arts/Journalism program?

I did 9 IGCSEs last year (two of which are English first Lang (B) and Chinese 2nd Lang (A*)) and also took TOEFL iBT test last year with score of 82 (18,17,19,28, planning to retake at end of grade 11) is that enough to fulfill the english+2nd lang requirements. I am also willing to take the SAT in the beginning of grade 12.

Thank you in advance to anyone who answers these questions

Oh, and btw I am not planning on taking A-Levels. Does that hurt my chance of getting admitted? :(

@willa96 I think HKU requires one to take A Levels. If you are submitting an equivalent qualification for A Levels then you seems fine. I don’t know about HKU’s Arts but i think you should definitely retake TOEFL to gain more than atleast 90 score. Yes, HKU looks all of your grades and not just 12th. No idea about the EC question. Overall hope that helps. Goodluck :D

@ahthesham thanks for answering my question! does SAT/AP count as an equivalent to A Levels? My school doesn’t provide many AP courses, the ones that I know it has are AP Calculus, Stats, Government and Macroeconomics. So I don’t think I have a chance of getting in HKU :(

You guys…this thread is really impressive and it seems like a lot of you with high qualification are interested in HKU and HKUST…I have to say it makes me really nervous about the competition (@~@)
I am applying for HKU BBA and CUHK Integrated Business Study and some business related major in HKUST…I am wondering if someone could gauge my situation here…I would really appreciate it…
So first of all…I am a gap year student. I graduated this may from an international school in Singapore…
I have a Bilingual IB Diploma on Chinese and English. My total is 39 including bonus.
Other test results are as follow:
SAT reasoning 1980 with CR 630
SAT math II 800
TOEFL IBT 107/120

2 part time and 1 full time work experience, the later was major related
1 internship to be taken in Spring 2013
foreign exchange to Ladakh India
Some school’s ECA like rock band, choir, language club, MUN, peer mentor, etc.

I am still taking another TOEFL test in Dec. (close to the end-of-the-world day) hoping to get a 110+ score to enhance my chance,
as well as another SAT reasoning in Jan.

I would appreciate if anyone could examine my chance of acceptance…
Would a gap year hurt my application??? This is the part I worry the most…

THanks and Regards
Gale

@willa96 You can tell HKU in your Personal Statement that you have took most courses of AP what your school is offering. I am afraid SAT is not consider equivalent to A Levels. You can always check on HKU Website about entrance requirement. Good Luck
@blueTimberland I think you have great chance at both unis with those 800 in SAT and IB score. Gluck :D

@Zeust. Some guy just got an interview invitation on December 10th. Av u heard anything 4rm dem yet. I understand that dey do not conduct interviews for all admitted applicants, but having an interview sure makes u kinda happier than not. DO u think that d candidates dat r not admitted with interviews r their first choice candidates and vice-versa?

Anybody else that has got a response can please leave a reply. Thanks
