I’m American and attend the American International School of HK. I am very passionate about attending HKU. How are my chances looking? Do you recommend SAT Subject Tests?

Hey ive received firm offer for science but my engineering choice is still under consideration in hkust. Is it possible for me to get offer for engineering? Pls someone reply.

Hey I just got accepted in UCL . But still there is a bit confusion between UCL and Hkust(1 year scholarship).Pros for Hkust : My parents are like Hkust is ranked better for engineering and they feel that job opportunities are better in the east than UK. Also fees is less and getting a scholarship for the first year. Cons for Hkust: I hold a Uk passport even though I won’t be considered a home student for the first 3 years but later on I will. No visa problem. No work visa (if the rumor that there is lack of jobs opportunities is false :p) . Also I guess I have a better chance to get in oxbridge or imperial for post grad wid home fee.

@friendscape
This your fellow HKUST class of 2017 student.
Congrats for getting into HKUST. Yes you will be considered into the school of engineering even after accepting your science offer. Pay the deposit and accept your offer. You can choose to forfeit your science place and choose engineering if you are selected. You need not repay the deposit.

Grade 10 CBSE : 10/10 CGPA

Hi guys, do I stand a chance of getting into HKU/HKUST?
I would like to apply to the Bachelor of Economics (BEcon) at HKU; and to the School of Business & Management at HKUST (Bsc Economics & Finance). I would apply through non-jupas and hoping to apply through fast-track as that gives me more than one chance.

So my results:
GCSE’s + IGCSE’s = 9As, 1A
but GCE AS = ABBCC (Maths, Further Maths, Economics, French, General Studies)
GCE A2 Predictions = AAAB (don’t have a prediction for General Studies, just a compulsory subject done at my Sixth Form)

I basically underachieved in my AS exams and I read that many people who are applying got like at least 3 - 5 A’s in their AS’s. Plus I’ll have to upload my UMS marks for HKU (Anyone know if it’s compulsory for HKUST?). I had rather low marks for the 2 French modules, evidently leading to a grade C, and in Further Maths, I got a B in S1 and C in FP1 even though I got 80 and 90+ UMS for all the other maths/further maths modules.
So please could you guys chance me for each of the unis?
Btw, does anyone know what the typical offers are for these courses, as they are not stated on their websites.

Thanks in advance! Fast Track Deadline in 3 weeks and really need to decide whether or not to apply, so any help/advice greatly appreciated!

@Eveian
Not necessarily, competition for local JUPAS applicants are extremely high, almost as high as oxbridge, LSE, and they have a very different application system on this.

Whereas it’s often said that it MAY be easier for non-jupas/international applicants simply because the system/criteria is a bit different. They might look more at your ECs or interview performance, like in the UK/US, rather than mainly focusing on your academics. Don’t take my word for this, but I remember that there is no quota limit for either non-jupas or intl applicants, though I’m not 100% sure.

Hi
I am currently taking up IB and my estimated predicted scores are as follow:

English A: Lit SL - 5
Mandarin B HL - 6
B&M SL - 5
Chemistry HL - 7
Math HL - 5
Physics SL - 5

that’s a total of 33 without bonus points (i am still hoping for some bump ups by teachers)

I’m applying for:
CUHK - public health, pharmacy (needs 36/45), science (broad admission scheme)
HKU - BSC, biomedical sciences
HKUST - 1 - science; 2 - engineering

What are my chances?

Do HKU/HKUST look at SATs or A levels/IBs more favourably?
Are transcripts required for application?

Hey guys. I am studying in CBSE. Can anyone tell me whether HKUST need grade 11 marks?

Even I do not know that :(.
Does anyone know if hku and/or hkust allow us to switch majors ? I am interested in physics and mathematics but I am still not sure about engineering, because, concepts of business, finance, marketing also seem interesting to me. Any suggestions ? … It is time to apply to universities and I am still not sure about my major…
I’d really appreciate some help people !

My friend receives an interview on July 28th of HKUST, she only applied to one major: Global China Studies.
What about you guys?
