hmm that’s weird (i’m referring to the dude who had a 43 IB score and did the interview and didn’t hear back from hkust)…i got a conditional offer from HKUST dec. 31. my predicted is 38 and my conditional offer was 35 for science and 34 for engineering. 38-39 conditional for HKD 25000 scholarship. buut i haven’t gotten anything from cuhk or hku yet. anyone same as me?

@ibraaa I think this year hkust is looking the applicants as a whole.Like you know, the personal statement,work experiences,volunteer works,ecs etc.This time may be some good students with very good marks might be left behind if ust doesn’t find something good in them besides academic achievement.
By the way congrats to you for getting offer from hkust. Can you please tell me about your ecs(extra curriculars) and non academics achievements that you uploaded in application.

hey guys! is global business too hard to get in? do you have any friends who have received acceptances conditional or unconditional for the gbus program?

@aj1997 thanks! my ecas aren’t the most competitive imo. member of a couple of clubs (science, environment, culture), involvement in volunteer works, i don’t really have non academic achievements but i do have one intraschool sports award. are you waiting for an offer too?

@ibraaa - are you an international applicant? Indian by any chance? Although I have done no volunteer services, I do have a good extra-curricular record. I had a student ambassador at HKU whom I know go through my ecas and he said that they were much better than his, since I was involved in several fields. I applied to HKUST and HKU, and I am also waiting for an offer.

@aj1997 - Exactly my thoughts.

@ibraaa actually i applied as a main round applicant so i think i won’t be getting an offer anytime soon. :(

@AkshathK i have HKID but i do not live in HK. i’m not sure if i’m considered international as sometimes i fall under the local non-jupas scheme. if i remember right, cuhk and hku separate local and international non-jupas while hku just consider both local and intl non-jupas as one. if you have good eca record, then i think you’ll be okay. good luck!

@aj1997 yeah you’ll probably have to wait a while. it gets quite annoying though how the HK schools do not give a specific date when they will give an offer. they just make you wait for months. good luck :D

My questions were something like:
- What is one thing you would change about your country?
- Tell me something about yourself.
- What are your strengths / weaknesses?
- Who would you like to meet and why?

Does everyone get the same questions?

Hello everyone.I want to apply in hkust as an international student.I have 7As and a C(in English) in IGCSE and 3As and 1 A in GCE A level.I was also ranked first among my class of 480 students in grade 11 and 12.My GPA is about 3.9…do i have a good shot for hkust???

How many test interviews are we allowed to do before our actual interview on LikeLive?

@jm11544 hey! well the test interview is not much of a big deal. it just asks irrelevant questions like how is the light or talk a little bit about yourself.things like that.they dont have a lot significance for prepearing you for the interview i think. it is for you to get used to the timing.at least it was useful for that in my case. and btw my interview questions were:
1-)Why do you think some companies fail and others are succesful?
2-)If you were organizing a festival how would it be?
3-)Your biggest achivement so far?
4-)Your dream working environment?
good luck!

HK high school student here. Huh, both universities seem pretty nice. I know HKU seems to be in a more expensive / downtown area so living and eating costs might be a little higher there. HKU has great law / medical facilities (At least judging by the insanely hard working HK students who work their butts off to get in), HKUST seems really nice and big though. I know more about HKU tbh, because I hear more about it, but either seem to be decent choices. I’m not sure why but I’ve always heard of HKU to have better academics than HKUST (at least in terms of overall rankings and some comparisons etc.), but then again some HKU facilities I’ve heard are pretty poor - for instance the arts departments seem to be a little weak.

does every applicants get the interview invitation for business major in ust ?

^nope. not every applicant

Does anyone know when are the regular decisions come out usually?

@collegeisfun
From March onwards

Really? I thought it will start in January @babycinnamon

@kyraemma, Hey! THanks for the reply. Regarding to the format of the interview, I was just wondering if we have to do a self-intro at the start of the interview?

Anyone has received the offer from HKU? I am also an applicant who has taken Singapore A level in 2013
