HKU or HKUST

Got offers from both unis for bachelor of engineering, i applied fast track, as far as i know they already give offers for main round applicants

@stn152 Could you please tell me when you recieved the offers from both universities.

I’m from India and I got accepted into HKUST (Engineering). I was never called for an interview but I directly got in, while some of my friends who have actually given the interview haven’t received their offer yet! so I don’t know how that works. I applied in the main round (Dec 28th). Got the offer on 2nd Feb. It’s a conditional offer + I also received a scholarship package, where I need 85%+ in my Grade 12 exams to ensure admission, 90%+ for one-off 50% scholarship, 95%+ for one-off full scholarship (on tuition fee)… I accepted their offer a couple of days back, paid the 20,000 Hong Kong Dollar deposit which is required to be paid when the student accepts the offer made by the univ.
PS: Not everyone gets a scholarship. I know a few people who got in but without the scholarship offer.

Hope all that clears up some people’s doubts.

Now for a query of my own: I’m now wondering what all I must submit next… Anything that have to courier them? Certificates, reports, any other official docs?

It would be really helpful if u could share your stats with us @XCavalier

Hi XCavalier,
I got accepted into HKUST in December 31 and I, too, received a scholarship package. A few days ago, I received a mail from them. As far as I know, now, when I received this mail with an official letter of invitation, I have to send them a visa application and some supporting documents. If you didn’t get this package, don’t worry - it takes some time to come. But when you do receive it, go through it very carefully and follow directions that are in there.
Good luck! Hope to see you this fall at HKUST!

Hello @bondgirl! I got the student visa application…with the directions to follow. I was talking about any copies of certificates from school etc that I need to submit now… Did you have to send them anything after you got accepted, apart from the visa form… What all were you asked to send, rather
Yeah, hope to see you there too

Sure @utkarsh3

I’m from CBSE board.

ACADEMICS:

In Grade 10 ,(our only national level examination so far other than the Grade 12 one which coming up…) - - achieved a CGPA of 10.0 (maximum possible, top grade in all subjects)

In Grade 11, 85% (top 10 percentile in school)

Predicted scores for Grade 12:
96.2% overall (97 In English and 96 in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Computer Science.)

EXTRACURRICULARS:

Vice President of School’s Physics Society

Part of School Football Team, have been Vice Captain

Founder of an English Speaking Club

Participated in numerous interschool English poetry writing competitions

Cleared with merit up to Grade 3 of Trinity College London’s Trinity Guildhall Piano Examinations

Ex-student council member… Didn’t apply for student council post because I was keen on taking up the post in Physics Society

That’s all I guess…

I’m from India too and wanted to know if you guys put up your 11th transcripts since I did not and if you did what were your scores?
My predicted card was around 98% and there seems to be no change in my application status since I applied back in december and they take an awfully long amount of time to reply to mails and haven’t replied since the past 2 weeks.
And I got an awful lot of extra-curriculars too yet no reply

Yello @voltaic!
If they require any more documents, they’ll email you themselves… If they don’t, it means the ones that you’ve uploaded are just fine… I got an email in Jan asking for my latest grade 12 scores (mid-term) since I didn’t upload them initially.
Moreover, although scores are very important to them, I feel that they look at your application holistically… Like extracurriculars and stuff as well, even though they might not command the same weightage as scores…
Now, your personal statement is also extremely important. That can make or break an application… Could be a major selling point.

@XCavalier I’m just gonna go ahead and put up my 11th scores since they asked for them and I didn’t. An alumni from my school got in without putting his 11th grade scores last year . And how were your midterm scores if you put them up?
And my personal statement was pretty good too.

@voltaic My midterm scores were not phenomenal… But they were quite decent. Percentile wise it was pretty good actually since most of the batch messed up the midterms since the difficulty of the paper was a bit on the higher side. I got an 82 point something% when the highest was 87%, again within the top 10 percentile
Guess that isn’t too bad

pretty much on the same side, but the difficulty also varies from school to school
so its not exactly a valid metric

I agree, that’s why I guess the grade 10 result is of much importance… Because of the standardized grading

Got accepted into HKUST today

@AkshayPai Congrats!!! Did you recieve a scholarship offer?

@AkshayPai congratulations bro!!..……when did you apply??

Is ur admission conditional ?

@vanndyha , Thank you  Yes i received a scholarship offer of half tuition fee ( one-off ).

@tus42rg , Thanks man  I applied on 1st of Jan I think ( i remember it was 3 days before the deadline ) and yea its conditional. Since I am from the CBSE curriculum I am to get 85 % above for confirming my seat and above 95 % in PCM subjects for getting the scholarship.

@XCavalier I am so sorry for replying you so late, I had to do a lot of things lately… They only asked me to submit my official high school diploma(+transcripts), however, that was before they send me an offer. I have read somewhere that when we actually go there, we have to bring with ourselves all official and translated copies of certificates (diplomas and other things that you mentioned on you application). Without that, they would not officially register you as a student. Check out on their website sections for “accepted students. what’s next?”. If something important comes up, I would let you know. Please, if you can, keep me updated too!

thanks @boldgirl! Where are you from, btw
Also, I can’t find the accepted students thing… Could you please post the link? Thanks a ton!

You are welcome @XCavalier ! I am from Kazakhstan, what about you? Yes, sure, here it is: http://nlss.ust.hk/about-us
