Joined…:)

rebecca: I will join the group tomorrow I just realized the name of the group is ideal, as after our batch the next year’s batch can use the same group ! and maybe we can initiate the group on facebook and CC once we are in HKUST, i’m sure the marketing department at HKUST would love it if we did that !

EVERYONE: JOIN the facebook group if you are almost certain tht you will be going to HKUST !

Muntasir: I know a person from Bangladesh who is doing Mechanical Eng from HKUST right now, he’s in his 2nd semester of first year…

Hi another intl student here

I have applied to BBA programme around chrsitmas and got accepted to HKU UST CUHK at the end of Faburary. ooh I’m doing A-level at the moment…

Well I’ve been to all three univ just a few months ago… HKU was certainly more lively and active than the other two. CUHK was huge and UST was like a resort at the high, very high mountain.

I need to reply all three by this weekend. Some people keep saying that HKU business programme is not the best among them, which makes me a bit worried, but i guess i’ll stick to hku:P because i loved the campus atmostphere!

it seems clear that most of you guys are into UST so … any HKU follower here?

@wly300-hi,there are many people on this thread who are HKU followers but most of them seem to be going to UST…I have applied to both but i think ill go to USt as they seem ahead in science and tech…
Btw Could you please post some more information about your visits to the respective Universities…We would love to hear.:)

Great idea ppl Ive joined too :D

people i asked HKU for a prompt decision and although i got the offer they only offered me a scholarship of 35000 HKD
which is embarasing … ive asked for more… even though i have confirmed HKUST and made my mind too ;)

Dexmax: Congrats on HKU ! 35000 is still a decent amount, but def not as good as UST scholarship :)

Does anyone know what the male to female ratio at hkust is?

I wish I knew the ratios for certain. From what I’ve read in recent news (2006-2008), I’ve only found male/female demographics for the School of Engineering where 80% were male in 2008. :|…

Anyways, I joined the group! yay :)

^ Well, you’re going to find that kind of male/female ratio in pretty much any kind of engineering schools or engineering major. For example, in my major Computer Science&Engineering at UCLA, it’s about 1:10. :(

Hey jiceo! hahaha that’s true. Wish I could find total demographics though. I wonder where the previously mentioned (couple pages back) 71% male demographics came from.

To answer your previous questions: I’m planning on coming back to the US for postgrad, too. Actually, I’m thinking about going to med school, so I’ll be taking my MCATs when I go back to the US for summer. Depending on how I do, I’d apply to med school or just pursue my masters in the US, then work.

We kinda discussed job prospects for the US a couple pages back. But talking to a few chem engineers (my area), they’ve told me a US degree is pretty much preferred. Not many firms are going to be familiar with any kind of international school (unless you’re from Oxford U or Cambridge, yknow?). But someone mentioned here that coming back to the US for a masters is pretty much the same thing.

Personally, I think going to HKUST will help diversify you as a person and prepare you mentally and professionally since they require you to do industrial training in the School of Engineering.

I would research if the program you want to transfer into is accredited by the Washington Accord. (:

rebecca: I think its like 8:2! Ridiculous, i’m sure you would disagree!

jiceo1: But UCLA is a really Big Uni, with sundry different types of majors so its not so hard to find individuals from the opp gender… Hope HKUST isnt as male dominated as it sounds !!

phoenix_ice: Yeah going back to US for Masters is pretty much the same thing!

Though it might be hard to relate euler’s formula to a philosophy major. (;. As a female in engineering, I have a hard time getting guys in humanities majors to see past the nerd stereotype. =P

phoenix_ice: As a guy in engineering, I have a hard time getting girls in humanities studies see past the nerd stereotype However, that changes soon after i’m on the rugby field or on stage :)

On stage? Are you a singer/performer?

And does HKUST have casual/intramural sports? I’ve never really done sports before but don’t want to gain a tonne of weight so I thought it’d be nice to join something not super competetive or for beginners.

@Ecthelion- I applied for BEcon & Finance. As u said, u did contacted them and wat was their reply? I contacted the admission office too, the lady was nice enuf to xplain me that it is too early for them to say bout my application status. And regarding the supporting documents, she said tat since there r a lot off applicants, they will require time to scan all the papers but no confirmation via email doesn’t mean tat they dint receive the documents.

@wly300- Dude congrats on ur acceptance to HKU. I applied to HKU and um currently doin my A lvls too. Just wanted to knw, did they accept u on a conditional offer basis, as in ur predicted grades and if yes, can u pls tell me bout the offer they gave u? And did they ask you for an interview?

@ All- Does HKUST provide more scholarships than HKU? nd is it harder to be accepted in HKU than HKUST?

How are the sports facilities at HKUST?Very important factor for me:P

What sports do you guys play?

rebecca: I am a singer and actor… but not the professional one! lol… Have acted on National tv before, but havent done that in quite a long time… My mother is an Indian classical singer and so I have grown up listening to her and many other good singers, and acquired a bit of a sense for it :)

smartchap: Rugby, Football/soccer, Volleyball, Cricket, Badminton
I’m the school cricket, badminton team captain. Captain for Volleyball division 2 team, forward in rugby, and winger in soccer…
what about you?
