Hmmm.... do you think they would find this offensive?? *sigh*

So I am filling out a “prospective student referral form” that my French teacher handed to me for Amherst college because he felt that I was perhaps a worthy candidate.

It asks me to fill out my e-mail… which is : chinawoman123■■■■■■.com
*123 is replacing my last name. *

Do you think Amherst will look at that e-mail and think badly of it? Is it offensive / racist?

Also, I am kind of worried: my SAT scores are** 660 CR, 610 M, 780 W.**

Do you think Amherst will take one look at that, and just put my form aside because my scores just aren’t good enough?

Additionally, I am not sure what “fee waivers” are. The form asks me if my family’s financial circumstances would qualify me for fee waivers when I apply to college. Not sure! I don’t think so—I am pretty sure we make above average.

It is a little known fact that all college admission decisions hinge on what the college thinks of your email address.

just create a new email for all your college apps. it’s more organized that way too.

I agree with b4. Although I do not see anything offensive about chinawomansmith, it is best to play it safe and be neutral. Also, you have time to re-take your SAT’s and improve your scores, so don’t worry about them for now. As for the fee waiver, that refers to an applicant whose fafsa shows such a low EFC that even the application fee would present a hardship to the family. then your guidance counselor will have to write a letter to your colleges to request the fee waiver.

By the way— how much does this referral form help?

I think this is something that Amherst asks for alumni to hand out. My teacher was an alumni from Amherst.

Couldn’t agree more with setting up e-mail account just for college apps. Both my kids did it – with their initials and last names – just for that purpose. It really helps if you are the one sending the mail – a question comes up, for example.
Save the catchy name for your friends.
