@Orcus2020 I got an email earlier today
Daughter applied Early Action and received same “teaser” texts this week. Today, thick acceptance packet in mail with $25K/year scholarship offer. She’s thrilled!
I did too, @DouglasMH3363 - I’m in! Watching the mailbox like 00… Congrats to you and all who got accepted!
My sons envelope arrived yesterday, he got in as well as honors. Very happy!
We received the big envelope today - Honors College, Presidential Scholarship, $31,500 Merit Award per year. We’re very proud of our child. By the way, you can find the Merit Award amount on the Hofstra Portal, but it isn’t easy.
@TheDaddy how do u find it on the portal? Our mail hasnt been delivered today.
I almost gave up looking for the Merit Award online, but here is how you do it…After you log on to the Hofstra Portal, look at the menu bar on the left hand side and click on “Financial Aid Services”. Now look at the middle of the screen where it says “Award”. Under that, click “Award Summary By Aid Year”. Then you will see “Not Applicable/No Value Found”. There will be a tab bar next to that. Click on the tab, and select “2020-2021 Financial Aid Year”. Then click “Submit”. Then near the middle of the screen, click “Award Overview”, and hopefully you will have your answer. Maybe there was an easier way, but I couldn’t figure it out. Ridiculous, right?
Congrats everyone! In with $25K a year Dean’s Scholarship

Our mail is always delayed (it’s an ongoing issue) so thank you so much for sharing! I followed your instructions and was able to see my D20 got a $30K Presidential Scholarship! She is super sick so this will make her thrilled! Thank you so much for sharing how to find it!
Oh wow that is so great! I really hope the news perks her up and gets her feeling better soon.
@Orcus2020 Thank you. You too
My son got into Hofstra and we were expecting a large award as well. This was based on what he’s been awarded by other schools (ex. Pace, Wilkes). We were a bit surprised to see only a $9,500 award per year (Dean’s Scholarship). Hofstra’s in his top 2 schools, but his other top school will cost almost half (including tuition, fees, room/board) so we may be scratching Hofstra off our list. Congrats to all who received large awards!
interestingly, after seeing all the mentions start to show up here, we have been a bit worried about our son not hearing anything for his ea1 app. he has been really excited about hofstra. yesterday, after calling and emailing his concern, he gets an email from hofstra saying that they have reviewed his package and think he should come in for an interview and a tour, but he did a school tour months ago. also, he is not a nyc resident, so it is at least 5 hours each way to get to the school. is this normal? or is this the way hofstra does deferrals?
My son applied to 14 schools (a lot of safety ones) and got into 11 so far. No rejections but 1 deferral in which they suggested making an appointment for an interview. He’s been accepted to 2 of his top 3 (hoping to hear from the 3rd one any day now). I assume the deferral meant that he’s not an ideal candidate but if he impresses them on the interview then he might get in. This school is lower down on his list so we’re not going to do it, but if it were in his top 3 then we would. I’d suggest that if Hofstra is one of your son’s top choices then make the effort to go for the interview. I’d assume that if he doesn’t interview there then he’s not going to be accepted. My son is our oldest child so we’re rather new to this game, so you may want to take opinions from other parents more experienced with this process before making any decision. Best of luck to you and your son!
@stancup3k - appreciate the insight. i guess we will see what the young man wants to do. he set up an appointment, but it is unclear if the timing will work.
Besides the merit award, has anyone received need based financial aid? They gave my daughter zero besides the usual federal loan and work study. Sigh…
@ajb2021, I’m trying to look now, but the site is wicked slow and keeps crashing. I’ll probably wait until the rush is over and try again later.
@AJB2021 Same for my D20. She does qualify for a Pell grant but other than that it is work-study ($3,000), federal loans, and parent plus loans. They did give generous merit (30k per year) but not enough to make it work sadly.
My daughter got 29k merit and that’s it. Nothing. Nada. I emailed and they said we could appeal it but the average appeal receives $500-$2000 and not every student gets it. LOL. Um, no thanks.
Same here - just got the $25K and $5500 in student loans. Am very interested in their cybersecurity program. I’m really grateful for the merit aid, but still don’t see how I can afford it, especially when compared with the scholarships offered by other schools.
Not ruling it out yet - just received very generous and unexpected additional grant aid from another school where I thought FA decisions were done. Gonna wait and keep all my options open until I hear back from all the schools where I applied.
