^^^^
Thank you. That looks like just the thing.

For any Harry Potter fans, this book looks like a winner - every review I’ve read (on different sites) has been excellent:

[Harry Potter, Brian Sibley, (9780061997815) Hardcover - Barnes & Noble](http://search.barnesandnoble.com/books/product.aspx?EAN=9780061997815&cm_mmc=Facebook%3A+SEE+NOTE%3A+keep+same+link%2C+just+swap+out+ISBN-_-BN-_-Product+Page-_-harry_potter_film_wizardry)

I put in this code I got through retailmenot website and got an additional 16% off (I know, 16%? But it helps!) BNGANQ4

^thanks, just ordered one for S!

zeebamom, I agree! Saturday I was out shopping and just as I was contemplating buying something for myself I got the TEXT from DS1’s school with the spring tuition bill amount. I decided to defer any unnecessary purchases :-(.

What a grinchy moment!

1moreMom, that is so funny about the fleece sheets and the cats! We have the same problem at our house!

The bright side is, you now have a way to get the cats to be where you want them. We have fleece throws that are only for ther cats (buy one cheap one & cut in in 2 -3 pieces), fold it temptingly on the chair, in the box, etc where you would rather they go, and presto.

For the kids getting cars – when my daughter bought her first one, that Christmas we gave her a toolbox for it with tools suitable to emergencies, flares, folding warning triangle, etc and also a bright red fleece —to keep warm if stuck, or just napping in a rest area, and also for spreading out on the roof or otherwise using as a signal if in trouble. They selll them at Campmor.com.

All that car stuff is at any Walmart.

For those who knit/crochet—there is a site called crochetpatterncentral.com and also knittingpatterncentral.com, lots of free patterns for all kinds of things & I bet these headbands are available on them.

On the minimalist Christmas— D is getting a computer but we still want her to have some fun opening things—so there are some gadgets that knitters use (knitting is big with her) and some fresh thick wool sox, a new pr PJs, 3 skeins sock yarn, an iTunes card, and the usual assortment of chocolates. Stockings get things like chapsticks and foot lotion and those post it things you stick in the text to mark your place, & of course some more chocolate.

My youngest D (senior in college) loves to ski and so does my oldest and her husband (both in grad school)–I got them a gift certificate for two nights at ski lodge in VT (lodging for 3 people). I got a pretty good deal through a website called Rue La La. It has discounts for clothing, accessories, home goods, and also travel/dining deals in the Boston/NEngland area. I called the ski lodge and found out that I paid about 60% less than the going rate for New Years Day.

Bought S1: droid multimedia cradle, fleece pj bottoms, video game, xbox controller S2: tempurpedic pillow, nice pocket knife

^ 3bysmom, remind your S1 that the pocket knife generally can’t be taken in federal buildings, courthouses, jails, and obviously airports. Different states have laws governing this. I just don’t want to see him have to hand it over in security. Depending on where you live he may rarely encounter these places, it’s just a good thing to remember since most young people don’t think beyond the airport restrictions.

Bromfield - RuLaLa also sells vacation packages to Vegas, Hawaii, SoCal. etc. I’ve compared their prices with the beat deals one can get through the hotels and travel websites, and with RueLaLa you always get more bang for your buck. The clothing I bought from them was nice and high quality. Can’t say the same thing about another discount website called Gilt Group (sp?).

Still looking for a stylish fold up chair for D2’s dorm room. Anyone have suggestions???

PBteen.com has butterfly chairs and hang a round chairs that might be what you are looking for. Search for lounge seating at their site.

My D has asked for some Skullcandy Smokin’ Bud earbuds. They are soft (not like the hard ones that come with the iPod), and come in lots of cool colors. You can get them at Target.

Costco has very nice wooden chairs that fold flat and are wood and have a padded cushion at their stores for about $40. They look very nice & stylish. They’re like their steel bretheren in how they fold but MUCH nicer and very reasonable. Can’t find them on-line at the moment but did see them recently when at the HI store.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience or thoughts about Nitebeams, which I just recently read about. They look like they might be very helpful in increasing visibility–may get it for my loved ones but would love to hear anyone’s experiences. Think it might be useful for our college kiddos who are often out in the dark.

Farfallena, I just finished reading that book, and I LOVED it.

I got a tee shirt for my daughter from cafe press “Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government” ala Monty Python and the Holy Grail. My IR major nerd will love it!

FYI on the knit headbands; check the content if it isn’t too late. Some of the non-wool ones (ie, made from acrylic) are attractive, but are more decorative - ie, they do not provide any warmth…
