Holiday Gift Shopping -- 2025 edition

Well, it is just 4 months until Christmas. Has anyone else started their shopping? I have a few things. My favorite by far are the salt and pepper mills for my D2. She is a Disney nut, and I thought that they were darling.

Just finished up the last gift I needed for Christmas. I love having adult children; it is so easy to complete preparations way in advance.

Bought my staple gift - Bombas socks for the kids and their spouses - during Nordstrom’s anniversary sale. Also got Lululemon tees, my other usual and expected gift. Need to start thinking about grandkids!

Yeah thanks for all the posts making me feel even more inadequate LOL. Have not even thought once about Christmas yet.

My D, S and SIL mostly get cash except for stocking stuffers. I have already bought matching Christmas pajamas for the 2 grandkids. Bought an “ Elsa” cape for GD. She is 3 and likes dress up ( just like D did) , Disney princesses etc so she is easy to buy for. It’s harder with GS ( 2 months old).

Until last year we did a fair number of presents for each kid. Last year we did a family trip instead of lots of gifts, and asked each “kid” (late 20s/early 30s) to spend the amount they’d spend on the family by buying lunch or dinner or whatever on the trip. I did stocking stuffers too. That worked pretty well. This year we we probably moving to mostly cash, plus stockings.

Haven’t seriously started Christmas shopping yet, but have gotten a few gifts.

SIL and I went in together on large framed original oil painting for D1.

I got SIL a really nice vegan leather dress belt. I may buy him a new dress shirt too.

East Coast Grandkids–I have to get through birthdays before I start thinking too much about Christmas. I’ve already bought each twin a nice long sleeved winter dress for school which they’ll get for their birthday.

Right now all 3 grands are crazy for the dragons from How to Train Your Dragon. They already have 4 or so so I’ve been scouring E-Bay, collectible sites and thrift stores to find some of the older dragon action figures from when the first movie was released. (I have a firm price limit of $50. Some of the more collectible action figure sets are all into the hundreds of dollars!) So if any of you know where I can get a Light Fury or a Boneknapper –let me know.

Mountain State granddaughter will get a hand made flannel quilt. Plus a generous starter donation to her 529 account. Plus a family matching baby onesie pj from Hanna Anderssen. (so she matches Mom & Dad who got their family matching pjs 2 years ago when they came to CA for Christmas.)

D2 and SIL2–I have no idea. I have given them camping gear in the last year because they bought a pick-up with a bed cap to go car camping, but with a new baby I doubt they’ll be doing much camping this year. I’ll wait until I see them in a couple of weeks and maybe get some ideas while I’m there.

Just got this puppy for new GGS, who will be 4 mos old at Christmas. It was on sale on qvc and then also had a promo code.We had gotten the elephant for GGD for her first Christmas and she loved it.

Also, got a Pokémon holiday box for son, probably for St Nick.

Our Christmas present to each other is the airline tix we bought for our son and his wife to spend Thanksgiving week with us as they have other plans for Christmas. For me, that’s the best present in the world. No other shopping to do.

Well, we bought S, DIL and D awesome seats for D’s favorite opera at the Met, and I told them it with their birthday present but we will have other gifts for birthday and Christmas. No, I haven’t started shopping or really even thinking much about the holidays. Guess it’s time to start thinking. Thanks for the gentle nudge.

I first heard about Bombas on CC and have been buying them for my daughter every year since. This year I can’t get them, as we are living in France and I can’t find any way to have them shipped from the US anymore, at least for less than a couple hundred dollars. I’m looking for a good European alternative. It’s a strange new shopping world this year.

Well, I’ve started thinking about ideas, does that count? I have no great ideas - my guys are 19 and 21. So still in school, with limited space, and either very basic or very expensive wants/needs. I was hoping to do a big family trip over the holiday, but S22 plans to take the FE exam over the break, so I’m thinking that’s going to mess with our timing.

It’s very strange that I haven’t thought much about Xmas! We just figured out that we will see older S/FDIL 1 a few days before Xmas on their way to FDIL’s family, and then fly to FDIL2’s family for Xmas Eve/Xmas to see younger S/FDIL2. Thus, this is the first time we’ve had to bring presents with us. I imagine they will be small. Or, we can give the bigger presents to older S to give to younger S after the holidays - they live in the same building.

We talked to younger S about possibly upgrading tickets for a World Cup game next year. That could also be a bday gift.

Older S/FDIL are hard because their apartment is stuffed already, and they are getting married in the spring. All of their gifts are coming to us to be stored until they buy a house - when and where TBD. It could be a couple of years. I will probably ask them this weekend - we will be visiting - to begin thinking about it at least. I’m wonder maybe an excursion or something on their honeymoon? Or maybe some new clothes for their honeymoon?

H&I are also doing a Viking Xmas market cruise (Nuremburg - Basal) with my parents over Thanksgiving. I imagine we will be buying lots of trinkets to along with the bigger stuff…

Chanukah starts and ends before xmas this year (Dec 14-22) so holiday shopping will/should include this (and Kwaanza).

The Gund elephant is a classic! Kids love it. You can get it with their name embroidered on it too.

Ummmm. Don’t you mean 3 months? Which makes it even worse, but typical for me, that I haven’t really thought about it.
