Nooooooooo!
We donāt typically do presents, but rather experiences - weāll be keeping an eye on things to see what it might be. And no, it wonāt usually coincide with the holiday season, and weāre ok with that.
What I wouldnāt give for my family to do it that way. But they like the same old crap every yearā same tree, same pile of gifts under it, blah blah blah Iām not a huge Christmas person (but I do love New Yearās Day)!
I just ordered quite a few beauty products from Bluemercury for stocking stuffers. Right now you can save 15% on a $150 order or 20% on a $300 order, plus free shipping. Dyson products as well as Diptyque are included.
When our D was little we did things a bit differently - weād go to PicNSave (kind of like a cheap Kmart without clothes), give her $20 and have her pick her gifts. She always gravitated towards the art supplies and stationary. And weād wrap them, one for each night of Hanukkah, she knew what she bought, but she didnāt know which day was what, so still fun.
Weāve never been traditional in any sense of the word.
I remember PicNSave. It got bought by Big Lots and wasnāt the same.
We seem to have Five Below popping up everywhere.
I bought Christmas PJs from Little Sleepies for the whole family (DH, 3 adult children, their 3 spouses, 5 grandchildren and 3 dogs). I will give them out on Thanksgiving. I bought this cute Magna Tiles Advent Calendar for the two families with kids. https://a.co/d/0WPq3fm
Not to induce panic, @silverlady , but I count 3 months till Christmas.
Iām currently travelling in Kyoto and got my 3 adult kidsā households each a Japanese knife.
Last year I gave grandson several manga tiles sets.
Iām stuck. Iāve given massages, gift cards to restaurants, to son and DIL. They donāt want any more socks or PJs, cooking supplies, books, clothes Iāve given short subscriptions to a monthly coffee club and a cocktail club. No more Lego sets
Regal theaters offer something called Regal Unlimited where you pay one fee and go the movies as often as you want. If they live close, you can offer to babysit on their movie nights.
Well, inspired by this thread, I ordered a couple of advent calendars for family members. For SIL2, who completely re- landscaped their backyard in native wildflowers and plants, I sent an advent calendar of 24 heirloom seed packets of flowers and vegetables. (They have several raised garden beds beside their driveway where D2 raises veggies.)
For D1 and husband I ordered the WSJ wine advent calendar.
I really like the Magnatile advent calendar for the East Coast grandkids, but I probably ought to check with mom first before I buy it.
I was recently at an art fair and purchased a painting of an owl for my D since it reminded me of her favorite book series when she was growing up, the Guardians of Gahoul. Hopefully sheāll like it!
That was my sonās favorite too, at some point in time. I was sad when I got rid of all of those books.
I kept that series since she loved it so much. But itās funny that I was just looking at the clouds with my H, and commenting that I wish I kept my Dās childhood books about clouds. I think they were Scholastic books, and they were very informative and interesting. My D loved learning about this so much, that I thought that she would ultimately end up being a meteorologist. I think thatās such a fun part of having young children, seeing what they like and are interested in and trying to guess what they will ultimately end up doing in their lives.
Going back to Christmas ideas., If I had young children in my life today, I would definitely give a lot of books
@WayOutWestMom ā¦.I think there should be a rule on this thread that if you post awesome advent calendar ideas, you have to include a link.
S was SO interested in dinosaurs 1st, then chess and magic tricks, then mysteries and comics like Dilbert and Calvin & Hobbs. Funny he ended up being an entrepreneurābut he was very good at it.
May get H this. my sister & BIL swear if works well.
Probably giving the gift of sight again this year in the names of a few on my list: Gifts of Sight - Seva Foundation

I think Iām an early shopper (done by Thanksgiving normally) but you guys put me to shame. But easier with grown kids (cash, massage, etc. and usually one box to open with an item of clothing). The real fun will be shopping for my grandson (and granddog).
