Holiday Gift Shopping -- 2025 edition

My sister advised that the band posted above will have good sale on black Friday, so we will wait (have lots of time).

There was a Disney Princess bowling set with 6 plastic pins & a small bowling ball @75% off at CVS. I bought 2 sets—normal price was $15 and sale was $3.75. I plan to give it as part of $10 grab bags at Christmas. We are supposed to buy grab bags for people of varying ages, so I like buying a few kids’ gifts—either the kids or their parents or grandparents or aunts/uncles can take them and use them with the little ones.

Today, I bought 3 bubble kits (marked $9.99 but 75% off) plus Mickey Mouse bowling pin set (marked $14.99 but 75% off again). Got $10 in coupons so paid $1.31 for all of it!

I have people to give grab bags to as well as holiday gifts. Also have bought some books to gift with checks.

I ordered the Anthropologie Advent calendars for D1 and D2. I got these for them 2 years ago and they both raved about all of the fabulous beauty products in the calendar.

I am not getting much ā€œstuffā€ for everyone this holiday season. D1 is expecting our first grandchild this month so I will be getting things for baby girl. D1 and her H have asked for money since they are planning to buy a house in the new year and will need furniture. D2 asked for a ticket to Paris for a week in December which has been purchased for her. We are also paying for her hotel which she is sharing with a friend.

I struggle with what to buy for most of my family except one. One of my kids is easy to buy for so much so that I have to watch myself. She asked for a horse show entrance fees so I need to remind myself to not buy her other gifts.

I have a couple of birthdays in both October and December making it even harder.

@mom60 I know those horse show entry fees are not cheap!

Nice, I ordered an advent calendar puzzle for my daughter. Each day’s box contains one section of the puzzle. I also ordered a Lindt chocolate calendar for my husband.

I love this tread every year for great ideas!

I’ve asked each kid for their Christmas list and they laughed at me. I like to get started early and monitor the internet for sales, but it’s still 80 degrees here and that’s too early for them!

No worries - I have my first granddaughter coming in March and I will shop for her! We already know her name so I’m thinking for Christmas I will get her a personalized crib blanket and maybe this very cute knit sweater set I saw on Etsy. I don’t want to go crazy (yet) as her baby shower is in Feb.

Please don’t buy items with the name and it! My gf always wanted a baby girl called Lily. Then, a redhead, stocky gal came out., just like her husband. They changed the name after that.

I just ordered an ā€œescape roomā€ advent calendar for my D. I think she’s going to get a kick out of it! Every day there is a puzzle to solve and ultimately it all comes together on the last day and is holiday themed. The box said for solo person up to a whole family. I hope it’s as advertised ; )

I hear you. They are set on it. It’s a family name and doesn’t conjure up any specific characteristics one way or the other. They also did IVF/embryo transfer, so they are 100% on the gender.

Maybe I am old fashioned and a little bit superstitious, but I would not be buying baby gifts that far in advance of a due date. Certainly not gifts that are name or gender specific.

I’m still struggling to figure out gifts for S and DIL. They’re always a challenge. I give checks but also want something fun.

I gave up on fun stuff and now do the boring - Bombas socks and Lulu tees - to supplement the checks with something physical.

Does anyone have a favorite rice cooker? I want to get my college senior a rice cooker to have for when he’s on his own next year. He loves rice, eats it often, and I think he’d actually use (and like) a rice cooker.

I think his stocking is going to be filled with spices and kitchen tools. Not terribly exciting, but hopefully useful (and I know he wants spices).

my younger kid is a college freshman and I have no ideas for him. He probably could use $$ more than anything, but that’s no fun.

My son asked for this rice cooker last year after having used his housemate’s all semester. Now graduated, he still uses it in his apartment. AROMA Digital Rice Cooker https://a.co/d/98yvTuK

If you want to spend a lot, zojirushi is excellent. Tiger also makes good rice makers. We often buy whatever Costco has. Our local Costco generally has one or more in stock. My BIL prefers cooking rice in his instapot. It even has a rice setting and is a stainless steel pot, not aluminum nor nonstick.

Agree that if you want a rice cooker that will last forever and makes great rice - Zojirushi. We’ve had ours for over 20 years, love it.

We have a 10 cup and 5 cup zojurushi. Both work very well. We use larger one for larger gatherings—no idea how old it is. Smaller one was gift from the kids one Christmas.
