This. You have to heat Teflon to a pretty high temperature to release HF and other products of decomposition. To about 250-300oC or 480-570 F, per my recollection. At these temperatures, rice will turn into charcoal! So cooking rice is OK. I would not keep an empty Teflon coated pan on a blue flame for a long period of time though.
Costco has their Bonne Mamam 12 Days of Christmas in stock for $15.99. Item #1915329
They doubled up what is inside the box so that there are only 9 flavors.
At least these are great flavors - in the advent calendar some of the varieties were pretty far fetched.
NYT published a 2025 gift guide that has a wide range of items, from pricey to fun little stocking stuffers. I have already seen a few items for my difficult to buy for H!
Has anybody tried lumilight (headband/flashlight)? Showed up on my fb feed.
I have bought “similar” via Amazon for my H when he takes the pup out in the dark evening months. He doesn’t use it much but it was inexpensive and seemed to do the trick of providing some light - though not looking like a lightbulb going down the street!! ![]()
I bought these headlamps when I wanted a red light for night sky viewing in Yosemite. They were $12 when I bought them in May. I used the white light when son visited and we made s’mores out by our fire pit.
Looking at the NYT guide, I love the roll the dice method for picking where to eat. Fits my family well, as we are so indecisive!
In theory I could have put this in Travel or Dressing Young thread. But tis the season to be thinking gifts. Items range from $25 Amazon leggings to $300 jackets.
D2 is interested in learning needlepoint. I have done cross stitch but not needlepoint. Ideas on how/where to get her some starter projects. Go with a preprinted kit on Amazon? Buy supplies but not a specific kit? Favorite needlepoint place online to buy supplies/kits???
Also thought I’d share a fun gift theme D2 asked us (H and I and her sibs). She asked us to buy her a favorite album from the past - for her siblings that might be a 90’s artist or early 2000’s. For H that could cover a lot more decades! I’m so excited by this. I have so many I could offer up but I’m leaning towards a Seals and Croft album and an R.E.M. one.
She has a record player and she and her BF enjoy playing music while relaxing. I thought this was a fun idea.
Start with something small and practical. I’ve bought from this company numerous times - the eyeglass cases are a perfect fit for my iPhone 12 mini.
Cute! I think she will want a framable product rather than a product she can use. Something she can hang on a wall. MAYBE eventually something like a pillow or Christmas stocking. But for now, something elementary that is not a usable product.
So far I’ve bought a puzzle table for my sister’s family. There was a big discussion on puzzle tables during Amazon prime days in July so I bought one.
Also have been collecting little bottles of Refresh eye drops for stockings. I’m in a study and every month when I go they give me a new bottle but I have the old ones still. I’ve gotten my sister and daughter hooked on them and they are expensive, so happy to get the little bottles from the eye doc.
I’ve always made the Christmas stockings for my family (cross stitch, embroidery, felt) and in the last year gave one to my nephew’s wife (then fiancee) at her bridal shower. My younger daughter had already requested one for her now husband (then fiance) , but other daughter’s new husband needs one and I’m not done with it. Now sister calls and asks if I have one for her daughter’s boyfriend, or one to borrow. I actually do have some but not sure if he wants it to be his permanent one. Once his name goes on it, it’s his. And by the way, where’s the RING? No ring, no bring (or in this case, no Christmas Stocking).
They do have stitchable ornaments:
I have a young cousin who just opened up her needlepoint store in Nashville but she also has a website. https://kickassneedlepoint.com/
She’s a jewelry designer, as well, with a Nashville store. Here’s her website if anyone’s interested - https://www.marykathryndesign.com/
Good choice. How about some Counting Crows or Red Hot Chili Peppers?
lol those would be both be my husbands choices!
My 3rd is Phil Collins/Genesis.
Do you have a local shop that sells these things…and maybe offers classes? Or maybe a friend who would be willing to guide?
Of course, you can get materials on Amazon, and there are plenty of YouTube videos to guide you.
Good choice ![]()
