Holiday songs that drive you CRAZY!!!

I don’t like the music from Nutcracker any more because I have heard it too many times. I used to like it, too.

lolou-
Thats a riot!! I had also wondered why no one had bemoaned the awful “Dreidel” song yet.

Santa Baby. Possibly the worst song ever.

I also dislike the Christmas Shoes song as does my co-worker. We’ve been listening to our local radio station’s 24/7 Christmas music at work but turn it off when we hear the first strains of the “shoes” song.

Did anybody else see Christmas in Washington last night? The group Straight No Chaser is great. They are on Youtube if you’ve never seen them.

Have you seen the Christmas Shoes movie? It is probably the cheesiest thing I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe Rob Lowe and Kimberly Williams agreed to be in it. It is that bad.

I’m so cynical, that when I heard the lyrics to Christmas Shoes, my first thought was that the kid was a scammer.

I’ve also gotten very tired of “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas.” It’s sad that this is about all we have left of Burl Ives.

Straight No Chaser played on the radio yesterday. Good for them!

Hunt - wasn’t Burl great??? My dad taught me all of his songs…Little White Duck, Goober Peas, gotta dig up those old albums!!!

I just LOVE Straight No Chaser…sorry I missed it!

I haven’t heard half these songs. I guess I’m lucky! My least favorite is Pa-rump-a-pum-pum. I also don’t care for “Up on the house top” except when it sung by a bunch of nursery schoolers trying to snap their fingers for the “Click, click, clicks”- then it’s the most adorable song in the world. :)

MollieB, you gave me quite a chuckle!

I’ll tell you what, though. I’ll think of all of you with best holiday wishes every time I switch the station from those wretched shoes!

A couple of years ago I filled Husband’s stocking with Christmas CDs by three artists:
Doris Day
Gene Autry
Burl Ives

I don’t know about Burl and Gene, but I think Doris filled stockings very nicely.

Another entry in the category of most depressing Christmas song has got to be “First Christmas Away From Home” by Stan Rogers. There’s one verse about about a young man spending his first Christmas day on his own by working a double shift to make ends meet, one about a girl abused by her father who has run away from home and is panhandling for enough change to be able to spend Christmas night in a cheap hostel, and one about a widower newly put into a nursing home hoping that the kids will think to call before Christmas day is over.

Another depressing Christmas song. This is a joy killer: Please Daddy Don’t Get Drunk This Christmas (I don’t want to see my momma cry), by John Denver.

Well Coronax2. I’ve never heard of that one. Jeez Louise that may just take the cake.

Ah, more cuts for my *Christmas Songs to Make You Weep *CD!

This isn’t a song, but how about the “Little Match Girl?” OMG, talk about sad!!!

Here is the plot summary from Wikipedia:

On a cold New Year’s Eve, a poor girl selling matches on the street takes shelter in a nook and lights the matches to warm herself. In their light, she sees several lovely visions including a Christmas tree and a holiday feast. The girl looks skyward, sees a shooting star, and remembers such stars mean someone is dying. As she lights her last match, she sees a vision of her deceased grandmother, the only person to have treated her with love and kindness. The child dies and her grandmother carries her soul to Heaven. The next morning, passers-by find the dead child in the nook, with a smile on her face.

^^Is it one of the Hans Christian Andersen’s tales? I remember reading his tales as a kid, and a lot of them were so sad. The Little Mermaid did not have the Disney-like happy end!

As I was driving home last night, the radio played “Stop the Cavalry” by the Cory Band. It is a very popular very upbeat holiday tune here in Seattle.

Yes, it is Andersen’s. Yeah, Disney has given a happy ending to many a fairy tale.

Well, I’m certainly in the Christmas spirit now. lol
