Daughter arrived safe and sound today!!!
She arrived with some pretty surprising news on a few of her first semester grades so far:
A+ Adv Chem
A+ Adv Calc
A Adv English
A Adv World History

Scary–she must be related to someone else 'cause there’s no way this resembles anyone in my family!

Not trying to boast, just trying to establish paternity! :)

Great job by your dd. I’m sure the DNA test(which she could probably analyze) would show your are the proud pop. My son is back but hasn’t gotten his grades yet. Have a great holiday with her!

Shogun of course you are boasting --definition Boast-To glorify oneself in speech; talk in a self-admiring way.–

Are those the only classes she is taking? Post all of her grades. Also be sure and sho her that you are posting her grades in a public forum and see if she apporves…

Ok pal I don’t know what your agenda is but back off. Shogun knows what he’s doing and is a respected member on here. I haven’t seen anything but negative in any of your posts.

hey sorry – no --I have seen shoguns posts before…
I didnt mean to double post the message either.

I am not aware of being negative in other posts.

My agenda is that things can be taken differnetly by different people on a web board and be careful of privacy

Look if I have an agenda it is that not everyone who is trying to get into USMA or any college is going to get a LOA in early fall and have multiple nominations. Good if you do; perservere if you don’t. Not everyone is going to have the outstanding success that shogun D does but perservere.

For those of you who are posting enough (and have met each other) to be friends this information is friendly conversation. But a public forum has lots of clients --it just may be taken different by some others.

zxc123 - in addition to the classes shogun listed, my son also took a psychology class first semester - and physical education (swimming, which is basically being pushed into a pool with your pack and uniform on, and boxing) - and he was a member of a sports team.

Wow, didn’t mean to start a firestorm! No idea about boxing Big Green (I think it’s combatives or something like it for the women). I only mentioned grades she had in hand, have no idea about IT or the other classes she took as she hasn’t seen her final grade in those. Sorry to offend anyone on this board who didn’t like that post. I had no idea it would ruffle so many feathers and I will try not to do so in the future.

zxc123,
the winter leave started the 16th (sooner if a cadet’s TEE’s were completed earlier this week) and they must report back Jan 2. In addition to the classes above your son can expect to take Military Science, Boxing, Gymnastics (military movements), and Plebe Swimming. He may be taking US History instead of World History. It will depend on the placement exams he takes during Beast as well as any AP test scores he submitted (not required but they are used to help place cadets in the most appropriate class). The order in which courses are taken isn’t always the same, for example Big Green’s son took psychology 1st semester but my daughter will take it second semester. The key to “surviving” West Point so far seems to be in staying organized and knowing when not to “play”. It becomes even more of a challenge when a cadet is involved in a team sport such as Big Green’s son or as in my daughter’s case on the cross country (and now track) corps squads. There seem to be plenty of distractions, even in that rigid environment! Good luck and congrats to your son on his choice to apply to West Point!

Big Green,
All of the kids on this board absolutely amaze me. They seem to get smarter and more savvy with each year! They are motivated and truly care about their futures and that of their country.

Passion without the politics!–very refreshing!!!

What an amazing start for your daughter. Those are very impressive grades and considering the time commitment for corps squad practices and meets, even more impressive. I’m glad she’s home safe and hope your holidays are fabulous. By the way, I didn’t think you were boasting, but I think you probably should.

The girls take Combatives instead of Boxing. It’s basically a self-defense course. My daughter put 2 girls on medical profiles with concussions during her final. (I’m not sure if I’m boasting or appalled.) And yes, they had protective helmets on. Tough class…

Yeah, boy my daughter said that combatives class was a real work out! She mentioned that it has changed as of recently in that it focuses more on “offense” than self “defense”. She said a lot of cadets went on profile during the class and everyone left with their share of bumps and bruises! Sounds like your daughter “delivered” a few herself momoftwins!!
