We switched to several Ruggables a few years ago when our cat started causing some “issues” with our antique rugs. Highly recommend. The nice rugs (minus one imported from a trip to Turkey that was unsalvageable) will stay in storage until 
it is safe again.
I layer my Ruggables over nice rug pads or inexpensive rugs. I don’t know if this matters to anyone else, but that feels nicer to us. Maybe Ruggables have plusher options now than when we purchased ours.
For furnishing a rental or vacation home, we bargain shop at Wayfair, Ikea, Macys big sales, Home Depot/Lowes, FB Marketplace and local spots. We’ve also found nice items at Goodwill and ReStore (nothing upholstered).
