homosexuality- born that way or choose to be that way?

We should just let them be, I think. At least, it is not their choice. One might think that nowadays gays and lesbians are more than there were before. But it is a false statement. There always have been those kind of people. It is just that they never had a chance and/or the medium to reveal themselves, to be who they are. But, fortunately, liberty brought them what they had always wanted.
It might seem ridiculous that one is having feelings for the same sex person, but we hopefully might get accustomed to this. In history, people have always been aware of new things just like we are now.
Just my 2 cents.

It has got to be a choice, an uncontrollable one. nobody is born ‘gay’, just like no one is born a killer, a thief, a liar, an alcoholic. people acquire these derailing traits because something went wrong socially.

“It has got to be a choice, an uncontrollable one. nobody is born ‘gay’, just like no one is born a killer, a thief, a liar, an alcoholic. people acquire these derailing traits because something went wrong socially.”

Insufficient evidence!!! First, people ARE born alcoholic, I was born an alcoholic by definition one of my parents is one, and everytime I drink I have the same reaction they did…so that’s yeah.

What if I were to say nobody’s born straight…they all chose to be straight. Let’s turn the tables…What would you say to that? You’d get all defensive I’m sure. Why would I want to choose (and all other gay people alike) a life of struggle, not only for our rights to be treated like other people in this world (more like country,) but also a struggle to find a partner…it’s HARD. WHY would we choose that? Hmm? Of course we often wonder now and then how much easier it would be if we were straight, but it juts doesn’t work by choosing. I just don’t get why people think we “chooooose.” We can choose how to act, yes, there are people who may put it on a little, not gonna lie, but we don’t by any means choose.

Jeremybeach, I got 4 words for you

Go read food analogy

:D

Ok Ive read this thread from the beginning so there are several things I would like to discuss but, for now, I’m only going to touch on this page.

Seriously dude? Hypocracy at its zenith! You reprimand people for teaching children about homosexuality and yet you can justify immediately labelling infants with the religion of their parents! New borns have an imnherent pre-disposition to soak in everything their parents say and do. I don’t see anything wrong with teaching children about a much more rational, logical perspective on life. Teaching children about homosexuality does not mean they will become homosexual. Branding children as christians immediately suck them into a whirlpool of irrationality and naivity bases on a 2000+ yr old book about a man with a flowing white beard living in the clouds.

HAHA you make me laugh! I love the way you correlate religion with evidence! This is completely illogical. Religion is based in the realms of faith and therefore cannot be used as part of a rational systematic argument. Is there other evidence you speak of that I am missing? If you’re speaking of Sheed’s “research” then I think you’re fighting a losing battle. His stuff has already been regarded as irrelevent or they have been discredited. Any others I may have overlooked?

WOW, talk about a direct contradition between the two hypotheses. Is there such a thing as an uncontrollable choice? Surely a choice imlies a conscious decision to act on something or act in a certain way? Thus, how can you make an uncontrollable but conscious decision?

Moreover, you’ll find alcoholism results, at least in part, from genetic roots while some view violence as psychologically inherent. I think the other two can be explained by the “fight-or-flight complex”.

I love they way you are perfectly happy to compare homosexuality to food and yet you created an almighty uproar when someone compared the homosexual tendency in animals to those in humans. Your argument is completely illogical. An analogy using such polar opposites can be immediately disregarded.

So, uh, you try the Jello yet?

^^ nice!

(10char)

call me ignorant whatever, i don’t condone that type of stuff. I still think it can be helped. Maybe it is caused by enviroment. BTW i am an athiest.

I think its just that more homosexuals came out as it became more acceptable in society.

Nobody is BORN gay. Are you seriously continuing on with this? WHERE IS THE SHEER EVIDENCE that indicates people are? Until it concretely presents itself, the born gay thing is defeated.

You are not born an alcoholic either, or a killer, or a thief. If you raise a child from the start with good values and give him or her a lot of love, it is pretty much unarguable that the kid will not do anything outrageous. Of course, there are exceptions, but for the most part he’ll be like you and me (i assume youre part of the normal herd).

And second, go to a gay bar and ask how many guys had loving relationships with their dads, or had a lot of close guy friends in school and bonded closely with them.

Homosexuality is a manipulated friendship. The man’s brain says men but the heart says no, and thats because the brain sees the other man as something he missed in childhood, so his conscious automatically propels him to acquire that lacked aspect through lust.

Change is very hard but nonetheless possible

I created an uproar? when?.. lol… I don’t even remember ever talking about animals…can you show me where I did? I remember a joke, saying how anyone could dare to compare humans to animals…but other than that, I have no idea what you’re talking about…

My argument is completely illogical right? Yea…great argument.

Food and homosexuality = polar opposites?

I’m learning a lot today!

Do you even know why I told him to look at my food analogy?

Okay…irrelevant…why? Discredited by whom?

^ There are strong genetic links to alcoholism and mental conditions that lead to violence. However homosexuality is not a “condition.” There also biological evidence to show that most homosexuals exhibit distinct physiological and psychological characteristics that differ from heterosexuals.

Internal Server Error;

Umm…caressemh…why wouldn’t homosexuals exhibit differences psychologically from heterosexuals? they obviously don’t think the same way…

We’re just going in circles…

I noticed…that’s why I’ve stopped really saying anything of substance…

fact: forums poster “baller4lyfe” has interacted with no more 20 people in his entire life (lyfe)

the heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the cardiovascular system

how on earth can it have opinions

So if I wanted to, I could turn homosexual by choice right now?

Can anyone explain to me how that works

Have you read this entire thread skatj?

No, but I skimmed through it and saw this.

I don’t know if anyone responded to this (they probably have), but I don’t see how you can consider this a choice when factors outside of an individual’s control influences their “decision”.

(If you already addressed this, don’t bother responding I’ll just look through the thread, and I’m more responding to the religious bigots in this thread not you)

okay, but…your environment, family, and all that affect your choice. I mean family is outside of their control but they obviously affect peep’s choices.
