Honors

Does anyone know what the honors program at the academy is like. I believe I read something about it in the applicant handbook. I was just wondering. I will have gotten through my sophomore year in chem if i get out their (my college does quarters). I was just curious. Also do you think I would be in over my head with a varsity sport and an honors program is it possible to do with good time management.

The honors program is not something you enter per se. You are asked to be part of it. It’s very tough especially if you’re doing a sport. What do you think you’re going to major in? Every course of study is demanding and rigorous. You will be challenged at every turn. Even those in non-technical majors have to take Calc, Chemistry, Physics, two engineering courses, stats etc. etc.

OK so it would be something I was asked to enter, when would they do that. I’m not sure what I’m gonna major in but it is an engineering field. Probably electrical engineering, Naval architecture or the computer analysis major. It was just something I was curious about because like i said I will have taken a lot of classes in college now. Honestly I doubt I will validate any of them. I may a couple or the first semester of chem or something. It won’t hurt to get a good foundation in that stuff. I was curious about it but I didn’t wan to apply for it or anything and find out later that I am in over my head.

Not sure how it works to be honest. EE is considered the toughest major at the school. You are helping yourself by taking a tough load now even if you don’t validate any courses. It can only make things “easier” your first year. Here are some courses an EE major I know takes. Ha ha.

* Engineering 1324 Dgtl Crts & Cptr Sys (102)

 • Mathematics 3211 Multivariable Calculus (101)
 • Leadership and Management 8211 Org Behavior/Ldrshp (102)
 • Science 5266 Physics II (106)
 • Physical Education 4222 Professional Rescuer (805)
 • Engineering 1222 Signals Systems and Transforms (102)

Hmmm. It almost seems to be an honors program just in the required major;) I’m not too stressed about it I just didn’t want to necessarily take a bunch of the same classes but I also didn’t really wanna validate them either. I will make sure and talk with th my adviser about it and see what the best route is. Thank you:)

From what I gather multivariable calc is brutal. My son is glad to be a government major thank you. :D

Yeah thats what Ive heard. I have a pretty good foundation of math in high school and will tested into calc here at the college. I wish they offered it in the first two quarters here but they only offer it in the spring so it means thats as far as I can get while here. If I keep at it I should have a pretty good foundation in the math and chem department especially by the time I get into my upper classes.
