host family?

Hi guys! Maybe someone can help me… I want to do my last two schoolyears in England. It´s better for my application to Cambridge…you know, no language test and all this stuff. So I need a host family or maybe a room(the cheeper version, please!) to live. How can I find a host family or a room? Where? And how much it will cost? Please help!! :slight_smile: And tell me what do you think about it!

i really dunno…
Although i have heard of Newcastle college which allows students to take A levels through it and also provides accommodation, may work out cheaper for you.

thank you a lot abhishiv:)
Any suggestions?? Come on…

IMO studying for A levels in UK isn’t worth the money u gonna spend. It would be advisable to join a school in your country which follows the British/IB curriculum. It really depends on your priorities/resources.

you can take A-levels in Bellerbys College (they have a campus in Cambridge). Before you can get in, your level of English should already be sufficient enough (IELTS 5.5). The cost is very expensive, though–31834 pounds (covering tuition, host family fees, airport transfer, insurance)

http://www.studygroup.com/bellerbys/english/centres/cambridge.asp</a></p>

You don’t have to take A-levels to study at any British university. I see your location is Germany so I assume you are in school there. There are many thousands of EU students studying in the UK and the vast majority of them did not do A-levels but completed high school education in their own countries. This is what I strongly advise you to do also. I am sure a leaving certificate from a German school will be perfectly acceptable and not unusual. If you are unsure of the qualifications expected, contact the admissions office by email.

I am doing a PhD at Oxford and in my lab there are students from Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Serbia, Israel and Singapore. None of them have seen an A-level paper in their lives. The expensive A-level schools lurking round Cambridge train station are sometimes called “crammer colleges” by British students. Where rich parents send their kids to re-sit A-levels after they have failed. IMO a complete waste of money for you. If you would like to stay with a host family to improve your English, I recommend you try a language school such as www.ef.com This is something you could do in the summer.

You mentioned Cambridge and this is what they say on their website <a href=“Study at Cambridge | University of Cambridge”>Study at Cambridge | University of Cambridge;
