House:Everybody Dies

I’m with the ‘can’t watch anymore because the medical side is so fake’ group.

Honestly, there is no hospital where the docs (attendings, residents, nor interns) do it all the way they do on House…see the patient, visit and inspect the home environment, run the CAT scan and MRI machines, perform all the lab tests, etc, etc.

Are there no nurses, radiologists, nutritionists, epidemiologists, medical lab scientists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, etc that work at this fictional hospital in Princeton?

And yes, as an allied health professional, I am a bit too sensitive to this, I admit!

Sorry to hijack this thread, but AWAKE WAS CANCELLED???..now I know I am too old for the demographic the networks are looking for; that makes 4 new shows we loved that are gone…

Making a new thread…back to House ( which I also stopped watching 2 seasons ago)

I do still watch house. Didn’t think last season was so great, but like this one & have enjoyed Robert Sean Leonard since I saw him in Much Ado about Nothng.
Actually like it better without Cuddy. Love Taub.

Since half of the shows I watch are British and they are few and far between - doc Martin, Sherlock, downton abbey… I * need* Awake!

Will every patient in the finale actually have lupus?

Does anyone ever wonder about the size of the hospital bills after endless tests, biopsies, surgeries, etc.? And does insurance approve all of those tests, most of which are totally off the mark?

The show has made me realize that many doctors do not have good diagnostic skills. A few weeks ago my D spent 7 hours in the ER, ran up a $12,000 bill, with no diagnosis. We took her to the pediatrician the next day and he diagnosed her after 3 minutes of Q&A.

^ Seriously! My son said that last night. For years whenever they throw out lupus we all yell at the TV “IT’S NEVER LUPUS!!”.

I haven’t been thrilled with the last couple of seasons, can’t stand the new team, however don’t miss Cuddy one bit. I have to say I am pretty annoyed at the twist last night regarding House’s parole violation. It isn’t enough that Wilson has cancer?! I shouldn’t be surprise. Everything I’ve read about the finale has said that this will not be wrapped up in a nice little bow.

I still miss “Buffy”.

I’m so sad to see this show end. I think next week someone should finally be diagnosed with sarcoidosis. Made me laugh out loud!!
I also stopped watching because of the fake stuff, nurse here as well. I have to admit to having a hard time with how mean house could get. I know, I know its the 'charm" ofhis character but it bothered me sometimes.

I stopped watching House long ago. I got tired of the personal drama, despite Hugh Laurie’s brilliant acting (and Robert Sean Leonard’s, too, and Olivia Wilde’s brilliant, um, personality), the fact that you could usually set your watch by the progression of misdiagnoses and uninformative tests. I really liked that it highlighted the trial-and-error aspect of a lot of professional work, but hated that it did that so predictably, and so unrealistically in terms of actual medical practice.

I’ve come back for the past few episodes, and maybe to see it end, but last night felt waaaay too saccharine to me.

And . . . Awake got cancelled? Aaargh! That was one of only two new shows I have been able to watch more than a few times (the other being Smash). I thought it was amazingly well-done for a difficult premise. I hope they air whatever episodes are left in the can, and provide some sort of resolution. This is one of those noble failures my kids cherish (My So-Called Life, Freaks and Geeks, Popular, Wonderfalls, Firefly . . . .).

I love House, but someone is always bleeding out of some odd oriface and/or seizing. And, yes, there’s always the same immediate suggested go-to diagnoses.

I cried and cried during the episode where Amber died. That was such an emotional scene at the end when she was awakened only to learn that there was no hope and then the machines were turned off.

Aww, House is ending? Darn. I haven’t watched in a couple years. But, I did enjoy it.
I agree.

One thing that always bugged me about House was the absence of patients’ visitors. I mean, really, if your family member was in the hospital, wouldn’t you visit? Yeah, yeah, I know. ICU patients aren’t allowed a lot of visitors. But, still. Some of these people had no sign of parents, siblings, etc.

I’m going to have to read up on what’s happened with the show recently. I always liked Wilson. Need to find out what’s gone wrong.

I was dissapointed Awake was cancelled. I never watched it, but heard it was good so was going to.

Awake is cancelled?! Darn it, I should have known better then to watch a first year show; you have to wait until it is renewed, then rent the first season, otherwise you get caught up in the story and it goes away. I wonder if we will find out which was reality- red or green? I have not seen it the past couple of weeks.

We used to watch House and loved it, then we missed a few months and never caught back up again so simply gave up on it.

I am so hoping that Hugh Laurie returns to comedy, at which he was BRILLIANT! Asking that he re-team with Stephen Fry would probably be asking too much.

If House was your introduction to Hugh Laurie as a doctor, try the six episode UK television series Fortysomething and see him as Dr. Paul Slippery, dealing with his wife starting a new career and 3 over-sexed sons.

Why can’t both realities be true on awake? I think that’s all that gives shape to the show. It’s the Schrodinger’s cat experient. The wife and son are both alive-dead.

Fun fact: If you search YouTube for The Eurythmics (sp?)/ Annie Lennox video for “Walking on Broken Glass” you’ll see Hugh Laurie and John Malkovich as her leading men.

UMDAD, I love that show.

Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using CC

I’ve loved watching Hugh Laurie since I saw him in the Masterpiece Theater series Jeeves and Wooster where he played Bertie Wooster. Stopped watching House after he became involved with Cuddy–that scenario just didn’t work. I’ll probably watch the final episode.

We were sorry to see Alcatraz was cancelled but really upset that Prime Suspect also was.
DH and I have decided we are just bad at picking shows to fall in like with.

Tried to find the original Prime Suspect on streaming Netflix but so far can’t find it.
I think it starred Helen Mirren.

I watched Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren I think I took the DVD’s out of the library. It’s incredible.

Me, too. I like his acting better in current season, excellent facial expressions. Reruns are more interesting plotwise.
