I wasn’t exactly a stellar high school student and unfortunately both my high school GPA and SAT scores show it. So, I was wondering whether or not they are weighted heavily as a third year transfer. Will average, relatively speaking, high school grades and a bombed SAT score ruin my chances as a transfer? Is it worth it to postpone my application a couple of months to retake the SAT? I am currently at a VCCS school but unfortunately I won’t have the foreign language requirement needed for the guaranteed matriculation agreement. I will meet all the other requirements by the spring.

Not as heavily as a second-year transfer, but they still look at them. However, if you had a low GPA in high school and have a stellar college record, you don’t have too much to worry about. When I applied, it seemed to get stressed to not retake the SAT either. Don’t look at your high school days as being a definition of your future if you’ve changed your life since then :)

If you don’t mind me asking, what was your college GPA pre-transfer?

On par with e-school standards, between a 3.0 and 3.5. College GPA isn’t a magic number though, a 3.8 and 3.2 might both get in, it depends on the school you’re applying to, other applicants, and your overall application.
