The cops in my small town are not affiliated with that group, they belong to the Maine Association of Police. This seems to be a NH-based organization with a history of right-wing agitating. As for police-community relations, the worst incidents in my state have involved cops shooting mentally ill people, most often white, after 911 calls.
I was horrified, to be truthful, when I read that story. The police in my suburb close to Boston also do not belong to that association. I know in my of 35,000+ that there is a a lot of police training/retraining and outreach going on. As a white women, who knows few minorities in my mostly lilly white community I can only speak about what I have read, and I have not read about any “incidents” in town. I do have many minority friends who live in Boston and the surrounding area, and from what they have told me, nothing has really changed. They still warn their sons to pay attention, be careful and respectful around police.
Yikes on the endorsement, and thanks for the additional perspective on that group, @Snowdog. Although a native New Englander (long since moved elsewhere) I have no useful firsthand data on this, but am glad you’re asking the question.
Not the largest in MA either. Apparently NEPBA has nearly 5,000 members spread over 6 states. The Mass Coalition of Police has over 4,100 in Massachusetts alone.
Plus, this was a vote by the executive board (9 white guys and a white woman), not the membership.
