How are women "oppressed" by men?

Because men already have the rights that women covet. That’s like saying there should be more “pro-Caucasian clubs.”

But this implies that childrearing is solely a woman’s responsibility. If men were expected to be just as involved, women would have to sacrifice fewer of their professional aspirations. I don’t think we should have to choose whether to get ahead in our careers or have children–that’s something men don’t even have to worry about.

I used the backlash as evidence. And I said that some women were just as sexist as men. I think, ultimately, people preferred a man over a woman, no matter what his color.

please refer to post #399.

Yawn: Why do YOU think Obama got the nomination over Hillary? Same ideology, similar goals, etc.

What was different? OH!

There is backlash to every single politician in office. People hated George W. Bush. People hate Barack Obama. People will always hate politicians.

Hey, Blair, how about we make a society where robots take care of our children, and also become impregnated with them. That way women don’t have to worry about that. Also let’s just make it so that we let each gender take turns being the president. Then, lets unscramble guys genetic code to make it so that they don’t like the “look of women” so that there’s less rape, then give women muscle-enhancing drugs just to make it more equal.

It’s the perfect utopia!

But, usually, there is not a lot of major, initial backlash. People are usually content at first.

Darko- I don’t know why you continue to resort to immaturity, but it’s all good, I suppose. Just trying to prove my point, so there’s no need for sarcasm. There’s something called “self-restraint” that I’ve used while reading your posts.

I’m sorry what was your point? I forgot it while I was slapping my knee.

blair, you should join some of my women’s issues organizations next year when you’re at carolina!
i’m co-chair of voices for planned parenthood and the women’s affairs committee of student government, and i work for the siren, which is a student-run gender-equality publication!

Uh…people were calling for Obama to be impeached before he even was sworn into office.

That’s BS. Saying people accept strong-willed women because “they’re acting masculine” is just feeding into your own pre-conceived lens of sexism. If women act “masculine”, that how is it still a male trait? “A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet”.

Oh, HA! YOU’RE A FUNNY, FUNNY GUY! You should be a comedian, really…REALLY

Leah: That would be awesome! I will definitely look into that when I visit this summer for CTOPS. :D

Yawn: Those people were idiots, as I’m sure you know. They still call him “Barry”, too.

I know…it’s horrible

Here’s the thing, Leah - most women want to have kids, we generally choose to do so. And although many women care about careers, once you have that kid, well, often you’ll want to stay home with it. After giving birth, the mother develops an intense bond with the child for hormonal reasons (for biological reasons, some moms get post partum but that’s a different story). It’s only natural for women to take some time off work.

Men are expected to care for the baby, but they don’t HAVE to take parental leave. A pregnant women basically has to take off for a little bit, and feels strongly compelled to, since we have the physical burden. A father can be involved without taking time off. I consider myself an intelligent woman, I want to be a doctor which requires a lot of hard work and committment. But I want to have 2 kids and will take time off, maybe work from the home. That will put a dent in my career, but it is MY choice to make. Unfortunately, I can’t imagine how to alleviate this problem, since women will continue to have babies, and some will feel pressured not to have kids or to stick them in DayCare. But even this is changing - DayCares in businesses/offices/hospitals are more common.

Speaking of medicine, did you guys know only 25% of doctors are women?! [Growing number of female doctors changing medical profession: 3/25/03](http://archive.southcoasttoday.com/daily/03-03/03-25-03/l02tr026.htm) I was honestly shocked, I didn’t expect that at all, I honestly thought it would be close to 50/50. But it says by 2010 it will be closer to 33%. For our generation, it’s probably near 50% I hope.

Told you! I wish it was 50/50, though. : (

And as a man, I don’t have to make that choice.

Guess which one of our genders makes more on average?

Males! (10char)

^^ LogicWarrior, why do you oppress women? Why do you do such a thing? ■■■■■■■.

Because it’s a fun thing to do. I also enjoy snorting cocaine off dead hookers and calling weak men faggots
