How are you going to gain the requisite 10 lbs before New Years?

Ive already gained mine from comfort foods in the last month or two, which actually were pretty comforting, but my H who weighs the same as he did in high school will love this.

[Bourbon Pecan Toffee Bark](<a href=“Bourbon Pecan Toffee Bark | Northwest Edible Life”>Bourbon Pecan Toffee Bark | Northwest Edible Life)

I was also thinking of sending some to my estranged daughter, but even my H hasn’t heard from her since Thanksgiving.

So whats your weakness/splurge?
Eggnog? Frango hotcocoa? Cheese straws?

fuji apples

^^^With peanut butter?
I like Fuji, also honeycrisp & Cameo, Pink Lady…

Usually I see Asian pears in the store about this time but I haven’t noticed them this year. They are shipped in styrofoam netting because they bruise so easily.
Have you tried them? The consistency is like jicama, but juicier.
I also like to get big boxes of satsuma or mandarin oranges.
But since we can get oranges anytime, unlike the characters in Foyles War, I like to make treats to get into a holiday mood.

Here’s another vote for toffee. I only eat it around this time of year, but love it. And soft, molasses ginger cookies. Mmmmm. We’re also enjoying lots of mandarins at our house, but I don’t think I’ll be able to blame any excess pounds on them. ;-)

Costco pumpkin pie with lots of whipped cream.

ek4, that was very smart of you to have already gained the requisite 10 pounds. The holidays can get so busy, so it’s great you’ve already got that out of the way.

idad: What were you doing up at 2:00 AM??

Apparently I thought ahead and saved mine from last year. :(

I was smart and saved my 10 lbs from last year. But I have been trying to exercise more, so I should probably make some of that toffee and enjoy a few cheese straws.

My worst holiday vice is salted nuts, especially pecans. We always have a traditional Christmas dinner, which means Yorkshire pudding with lots of butter–another favorite. And I am one of the few people who loves a good fruitcake.

Well, I planned ahead too and started a gradual weight gain around September when I began the most stressful year of teaching ever ( a sincere thank you to Race to the Top, MA teacher evaluation system and our rabid new school administration).

But I don’t want to get complacent so I have been eating every carb in sight, topping just about every meal with a handful of chocolate covered blueberries from Trader Joe’s and avoiding the gym like it’s my job.

It’s paying off too! I have ONE pair of pants that still fit me and a pair of very forgiving leggings. Thank God for the How Do Wear Your Leggings Thread!!!

Garland, I wish there was a like button!!

I just took off 10 pounds, and am slowly trying to increase my daily caloric intake without gaining weight. But…if it weren’t for that, I would be eating sugar cookies (we ice and decorate ours), Snowballs (Russian tea cakes), lemon bars, my friends cookies, some candy, and chips and dip.

It’s funny, since I’ve been dieting for 14 weeks (as of today), I have lost my craving for the above mentioned treats. I can’t tell if I’m relieved or disappointed.

Wine.

Seriously, I’ve lost 25# in the past year after quitting my job and have no interest putting any of it back on. I’m allowing myself up to 5#, as I will still be below my college weight. My challenge is it’s been so damn cold the past 4 weeks and 3 snow/ice storms in December, I’m not getting my cardio exercise in and I don’t even work up a sweat at the gym. I understand why people retire to warm climates!

Honeycrisp have been my downfall. The orchard about two miles from my house has had them for the last couple of months. Fresh from the tree. Irresistable.

The cold weather precipitating my lack of exercise is doing all the hard work for me. I don’t have to burden myself with overeating, I can sit on the couch and gain weight without lifting fork to mouth.

Christmas cookies are my downfall this time of year. I’ve only cooked one batch so far, I took them to a party and they all got snarfed up. Christmas parties aren’t helpful either - one a week till New Years. And a couple of art openings as well.

My goal is to lose five more pounds…not gain ten.

Well, okay, sort of radical, but if that’s what you really feel…

LOL Chanukah latkes and Thanksgiving already put me halfway there. Luckily my holidays are done; still fighting the stealth hot chocolate and Mallomars.

Don’t worry, you still have New Years to work with! :)

I am performing small acts of kindness this season by making sure that I try ALL the treats that co-workers bring to the office. This way I can spread holiday cheer by telling them how delicious they are.

^You are an example to us all.
