How bad is it to not get an interview?

My area has a interviewers for every school I applied to, but I have only been offered interviews at a few. Does not getting offered an interview mean that I failed some initial screening process? My test scores and grades are perfect (4.0, 2400, 800 Subject tests), and I am not Asian. Is this a sign that there is something severely flawed in my application?

This will answer your question http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/804985-alumni-campus-interview-faq.html

While Yale-specific, the details apply to most schools that interview.

But I seriously think you’ve taken leave of your common sense if you think “My test scores and grades are perfect (4.0, 2400, 800 Subject tests)” would get you screened out.

No, I meant that the academics would not be the reason I got screened out.

Umm… I didn’t even apply to Brown. The information there is very different from what I see for the schools I applied to.

Relax. If you are talking alumni interviews, it has far more to do with how many local interviewers there are vs applicants. Admissions offices don’t have the bandwidth to pre-screen and prioritize who to tell the local area coordinator to interview. Those schools you haven’t heard from may well be trying to scrounge up more interviewers to satisfy demand. You’ve still got time to hear from them. If you don’t, no big deal.

I hope it doesn’t mean too much =(

Unless you notice that you accidentally wrote you were like a convicted criminal or something, I would take it to mean that most schools will think you’re a pretty safe bet without the interview.
