How can I judge in school activities and out-school activities?

Columbia application form asks people to seperate in-school activities and out-school activities. However , I don’t know how to judge it.

For example,

How can I judge a NGO-related school volunteer Club. We went to foreign countries and had volunteered over 100 hours. In addition, we did a lot of things in school like helding conferences. Also, we did a couple of things outside of the school like raising funds.

Another example,

It is the club that about 8 schools participate. We have published some magazines and does many other things. Most of the programs are out-school
programs.

P.S how can I prove what I did shown in the second example? Certainly, transcript will not record it.

Is the activity sponsored by the school? Does it have a faculty advisor? If it does, it’s an in-school activity. If it’s sponsored by someone else, it’s an out of school activity.

You don’t have to have documentation proving that you did any activity. Most students’ activities aren’t listed on their transcripts.

Some colleges do random checks. If proof were needed then, you could send a copy of your magazine or other proof such as having a letter from the NGO that you volunteered with.

What’s most important when listing activities is making sure that you list all of your important ones and provide enough info about them that the colleges understand what the activity was and what your role is. Whether you put the activity in the correct box on the app isn’t important.

out of school activities would be things that you participated in that aren’t connected to the school or school district. things like: church group, library district programs, city/county things (we have teen court here), college activities you participate in…stuff like that. From how you describe your activities – they sound like in-school ones.

My sons major activities are out of school activities. He has really only one activity in school which is not so significant. I am concerned that all his activities will we written on the “out of school” section . would this look bad?
He has passion for his activites out side school and I am sure he could show this on the application through his essays and rec. How would the school think of this? thanks for your opinions.
