How can I quote previous posts in my replies?

I’ve always wanted to know how to quote others too but the explanation was Greek to me :(

Oh goody! What a nice Christmas present:

:)
:frowning:

Or maybe not. When I preview post there are no smileys…hmmmm

Oh they are there when I post…hooray!

I guess I got it??

; hope this works.

I wonder if kids on CC are laughing at us.

Wouldn’t be the 1st or last time. We probably deserve it! It’s OK–amusing when they start deciding that we have some functioning brain cells after all sometime when they are older and/or start raising their own kids. ;)

I am going to try it too.[\quote]

What am I doing wrong???

Your slash is the wrong way - it should be a forward one, like this:
Trying again.

HURRAY!!!

I was beginning to feel like I had some sort of processing disorder!

I am very happy now…this made my day. Thank you! :)

One more time now, just for fun:

Congratulations!

Now for the advanced lesson:

If you want to put something in italics, put [i ] [ /i] around the word (without the spaces).
For bold, use [b ] and [ /b].
And for a hyperlink, /url.

When I enter

, it says my post is not long enough.

I’ve tried this so many times, it just does not work.

OMG! It worked!

gives you the “Originally Posted by” line as shown below:

And I think this one is pretty cool.
gives you “Originally Posted” and an automatic link to the post number you specified within the thread (click the little blue arrow and you’ll see).

**
**

Nice when you want to respond to a small snippet of a long post, don’t want to waste space by duplicating the whole thing, but want the full context to be available. Especially if the thread is 20 pages’ worth of posts. :)

Edit: That (post link) usually works, but this particular example is giving trouble at the moment… I think it’s database-related and temporary, rather than a limitation imposed by CC admins.

@heyalb: Your message must include at least 10 characters of text that isn’t a quote. That’s why it worked for you the last time you tried it – you included some commentary about your attempts at quoting.

^^ Lesson learned: always consult the geek. ^^

:)

Even easier that that, just highlight the text you want in italics and type CTRL-I (for bold, type CTRL-B). The brackets are automatically inserted for you.

Wow! That is so cool! Thanks, patsmom and geek_mom :)
