Its been quirky, for sure, lakemom. Sometimes they get “stuck” and then “dump” a bunch at once. And if you dont go back to the thread it sill stop updating you.

We aren’t allowed on forums at work (after someone let in a virus they traced to one) but I realize some people must be or do it at lunch because they can respond all day. I like to check posts I’m interested in while I’m on computer even if I’m doing other things (multitasking at it’s best) but I smile when a person says, “Where is the OP?” because 12 hours went by or a day…how could that be? : )
Some people check in a few times a week or less and one poster mentioned, she doesn’t have emails sent to her when PM’d, so she sees them when she logs on. Another person was frantic because they thought something was wrong. It does become like an extended community.

I don’t know how you all deal with the many email notifications. I find myself really annoyed by them. I just bookmarked my control panel so it pops up first whenever I visit the site. Threads where I’ve posted that have activity since my last viewing show up on top with red stars. Below those, I subscribe to a few forums for the schools where D will apply in fall and the one S attends. I often look at the latest posts, too, just to get an overview of what’s happening on the site. Probably I miss a lot of the action that way, but the email clutter just becomes too much for me.

So how is picking the little “post reply” button different than “quick reply”?

I think because if you hit post reply, it gives you options at the bottom for email notification. I think once you set that up though, 'quick reply" doesn’t matter.

It doesn’t matter after you have hit post reply if you set how you want to be notified in the selection box under the box you posted in. you will get notifications. Alternatively just do quick reply and go up to thread tools and subscribe there but I’m not sure how often you are notified then.

In terms of excess emails. I just delete them. Usually you get a few more even if you don’t go back and click on the link to the thread.

jym626, I did email the webmaster so hopefully they will fix it. I seem to get notifications to some threads and others no notification even if I go back and post again.

A trick you can do to find all of the threads you’ve posted in (and then be able to click on the “Read first unread post” to see what’s happened since you posted) is:

Click on “Search” on the top bar

Click on the “Advanced Search” link

Under the heading “Search by User Name” type in your own username

Make sure “Show results as threads” is selected

Search

Thanks RacinReaver ! There are 2 threads I don’t seem to be getting any email notifications about and this way I can see whether someone has posted without hunting for the thread.
