how did i get recjected from every school?

ok so i go to baylor university and will be a junior next year, i have a 3.41 gpa and i have taken a bunch of difficult classes…i really dont like baylor because it is so boring so i applied to a bunch of different schools…i applied to:

rice university- rejected
emory univeristy- rejected
tulane university- rejected
vanderbilt university- rejected
wake forest university- accepted
university of texas- accepted
texas a and m- accepted

why do you think i got rejected from all the good schools i applied to? i am really upset with all of my options…i think public schools are less selective then privates and are way easier to get into…

Some public schools are just as selective as some privates – UVA, NC, Michigan, and a handful of UCs come to mind. The trouble is that many successful transfer applicants are amazingly strong students toting 3.9 and 4.0 GPAs and lofty SAT scores to match; some have taken extracurricular opportunities to the extreme, etc. Rice, Emory, Tulane and Vandy are all selective schools that probably have more qualified applicants than they have room to admit.

You should, though, be proud of your acceptances. Wake Forest and A&M are nothing to scoff at. At which U of Texas were you accepted?

Why are you very upset with your three options?

Texas and A&M are both excellent and have much better reputations than Baylor. I am not a Baylor fan, and I think you would be well-served to move on to one of the other two schools.

you should be happy with your three choices lol… they are all good schools, if that is UT-Austin then I would probably pick that over all of the schools you got rejected from too :x

ut austin…do other schools really think of baylor as that low and not respected? i mean a 3.41 is pretty good isnt it? and we know all of the schools i applied to have heard of baylor b/c they are all southern schools…

No offense, but with a 3.4 GPA from Baylor you should be thrilled to get into Wake Forest.

A 3.41 is indicative of fine work. The reputation of your actual school probably had little to do with your decision – transfer committees observe how YOU did at a given school rather than the school’s name.

dude no offense but a 3.41 from baylor is hardly enough to even be looked at for rice, emory, tulane, and vandy these schools and duke are the 5 southern ivy’s… i think for consideration as a transfer student it says have a minimum 3.5 gpa to be eligible to apply…i am surprised you got into wake forest, if i was you id either suck it up and graduate from baylor or go to wake forest

It is not that, but the amount of applicants with a 3.7+ gpa were probably a lot more abundant… be thankful you are in UT-Austin and hey there is still Wake Forest. They are both highly ranked and recognized schools. Not to sound like a jerk, but frankly, when you are applying to a school like Rice which is ranked 17 in the US and accepts 92 applicants I can gurantee you that your 3.41 is not good enough because everyone who was accepted had you beat. 3.41 is something to be proud of though, you did a good job but to be assured of getting into somewhere like Rice you would have wanted 3.8+

Not quite so harshly, Wake Forest is a lucky opportunity – I’m not so knowledgeable about their programs, but from a quick google search (as you’ve most likely already done) it’s a beautiful place with a talented student body.

don’t feel too bad about rice: i was rejected with a 3.92. competition at schools like rice is insane. many talented and qualified students are rejected each year. on the bright side, you still have plenty of fine options to choose from, and wake forest is certainly nothing to sneeze at. keep in mind they probably thought very highly of you to admit you for tranfer, considering how many people likely applied and how incredibly small the student body is at that school, meaning they likely didn’t have many spots available. you should be pleased.

its ok, not everyone can go to a southern ivy :-)

wake forest is a pretty good school, and its a private, so if they give u good aid, maybe u should go.

UT Austin is always a great school, with a great football team!

if youve already spent 2 years worth of tuition at a private school you mise well graduate from one, itd be stupid to graduate from a public one after all of that money spent…either stay at baylor or go to wake forest

jayhawk, why not save money and still get a great education from a state school? Money is money and it all has to be paid off eventually.

yea if he was going to save money he should have done it his first 2 years then transferred to a private instead of wasting it his first 2 years and then only graduating from a public

But who really cares about the distinction between public and private school? Employers? Admissions committees? A good school is a good school.

To the OP: I don’t mean to sound rude, but what more can you ask for? You’ve got a decent GPA, which (with some luck) got you into two great schools (I have my personal doubts on A&M lol). Be happy, go where you feel you’ll do your best, and consider yourself lucky.

Collegedude - I’m surprised you were rejected by Tulane. As for the others, I am not. Baylor is a decent school and a 3.41 is an ok GPA, but you applied to the best.

P.S. - You should def go to UT. Amazing school.

i’ll have to agree with brand on this one. Cheapest for you and an amazing school.

i say either stay with baylor, or go to wake forest…then look into UT for grad school, or if u absolutely cant stand baylor and wake forest is too expensive then hit up UT
