I’m hoping bovertine may post the explanation. (The name always reminds me of Ovaltine, for some reason.)

^^ I know - it always makes me think of ovaltine.

And does anyone else continually read one name as Roman Pig Eyes? (I’m with you, Maineparent, on the inadvertent reading of some names).

My first CC user name had to be retired when several of my son’s friends’ parents outed me. So I wanted the most generic - yet slightly exotic - name possible. So mine’s a direct translation of “false name.” But it’s funny that many people read it as Faux Mom. God knows that’s how I feel some days…

I always read a certain name as “soviet.” And “edad” means “age” in Spanish.

Mine is a shortened spelling of a toy that my D loved as a baby (glow worm).

The first name I chose was rejected because it was already taken. It must have been a very short term poster because I’ve been on CC a long time and have never seen it.

Anyhow, I was annoyed that I couldn’t get my first choice so figured I would just go with one of the -----Mom names. It was the winter of S1’s senior yr. in h.s. He was excited about his college so I just took part of his college team’s name (Wolfpack) and stuck Mom on the end. I never dreamed that this many years later I would still be here. If I had known, I would have definitely been more creative. S1 has now graduated from college.

FauxMom, the name you’re referring to stands for “romanian gypsy eyes”
NJTheatreMOM,I think soozievt is for Suzie in Vermont.

Hi everybody!
I was skimming over the new posts, simply killing the time when I came across intparent’s post on screenname selection.Since so many replies have been posted there,I decided to modify the post title, and give it some more edge, with the hope of extracting more detailed and candid answers from as many members as possible. So, what really inspired you to use your particular screenname, and not settle for any other? And by the way,I really really love some of the screennames like GLOWORM for instance.Reply as you deem best.

Sure it is, jym626, but the post title,as I mentioned goes deeper and sort of makes one evaluate himself more.I like your screenname though.

I pick random names that start with M on internet forums. My real first name starts with M, but is unusual.

I’m sure you mean my member name. This has been a problem for me on CC as many misspell my name that way here. And I can sorta see why.

My member name is the same as the name I started with when I first got the internet and needed a screenname and email name for my service. The internet was all new to me and my husband made up my name! My name is Susan and growing up I was usually called Susie and my husband often refers to me, at least in writing, as Suzy, and so he created Soozie and then we live in Vermont and he added “VT” for Vermont.

But when I joined CC, even though I entered my name as SoozieVT, the way I use it online, it came out to be all lower case on CC, even though I didn’t want it that way. I joined CC back in 2002 and maybe this works differently now, I don’t know.

But with my name written here in all lower case as “soozievt”…people than start misspelling it and see “soviet” or “viet” in my name and I’ve been asked if I am from Russia or Viet Nam…um, no. So, for the record, it’s Soozie in VT. :)

Like many people, whenever I come to a new board, I lurk for a while, and then join in when I have something to contribute (or a question). I was on CC for a short while with a name that was too identifiable, so I needed to change it. I do have a wee bit of Scottish ancestry in my family tree, so the name just popped into my head. There are now a few of us on the Internet, but I like to think I was the first! ;)

Like many others, my original name was identifiable and I changed. Originally came for the Prep School forum, but got addicted to the college stuff. With my addiction and with my youngest being in elementary school, I figured I’m in it for the long haul.

been away awhile - my nick came from friends involved in my life 30 years (and 30 pounds) ago …

Yes, when I read edad’s screen name I don’t think e-dad, but “age”, because I speak Spanish (a lot better than English, for sure,) so I always picture him as Father Time, with the long white beard.

to the op: I always see your name as a Myers-Briggs-ism, INTP being a personality type (my H is an INTP)

My screen name is after friendly bets I would have with my husband…“I’ll bet you a chocolate chip cookie”…however I realized it really doesn’t identify me as a parent, oh well. If I did it over again I would definitely fit the word “mom” or “parent” in there somehow!

If Slithey Tove is reading this, I’ve often wondered the meaning behind her screen name! :)

ExeterAndoverChoateDeerfield

(Raises hand) I can answer that. “Slithy tove” is a phrase from the first (and last) verse of Lewis Caroll’s poem “Jabberwocky.”

etc etc etc…

After getting S’s acceptances and FA “packages” back, I was upset that, even though my FAFSA theoretically put me in a place where some aid could have been possible, most of the privates offered up no aid other than loans. Full-pay was not realistic without an amount of debt I didn’t want to take and didn’t want to saddle my S with, so S had to decline his top two choices.

I blame myself though; it is my failure because I am… not rich enough.
