How do colleges view middle school foreign language?

I took french 1 and 2 in middle school, but french 3 honors and french AP in high school and got a 5 on the AP french exam and a 780 on the French SAT II exam.
I want to go to the University of Chicago.

Is only 2 years of high school french a killer?

Colleges will see French 3 on your transcript and will assume that you took French 1 and 2 in middle school. Ask you counselor if your two years of middle school language will show up on your transcript.

But on another thread, you said your only AP 3 score was in French-?

General answer: you made it to AP. You’re probably ok. Adcoms aren’t generally interested in middle school detail. And you don’t want a major that hinges on language skills. But really, figure out which score it is.

My school you start Spanish 2 in freshman year, having finished Spanish 1 in eighth grade

@lookingforward made a good point. You made it to AP

For the vast majority of colleges, completion of level 4, regardless of when/how it was completed, covers the foreign language recommendation. If you’ve completed AP, you can just check that off the list.
