Now I wish to stand out among standard Indians so I will look unique and impressive.
I know French well and I lobe CS and know lots of programming languages.
Now should I take the AP CS exam or the SAT French exam to differentiate myself during the admission process which would increase my chances?
SAT French would be a nice way to start. But remember, you might be competing against native French speakers, so the curve might be a bit harsh.
AP CS- APs don’t have a huge impact during the process for internationals, but rather can help you skip a few courses in college.
I again want to repeat. Please don’t predict your 12th grade percentage. You are misguiding other ppl.
Why don’t you elaborate upon your ECs? That’s usually the best way to stand out (other than the essay), and you just say ‘great’. Mention level of participation, achievements, positions held rather than names like Yoga, Squash alone.
On a serious note though, I would say AP CS is a better bet. SAT French is not required, and if you want to demonstrate your French proficiency, you can do so through your school grades.
Is “SAT 2” your second time taking the SAT, or the Sat II Subject Tests? If subject tests, it’s not common to add them together like that; they are reported individually.
@vn1997 But a lot of people here told me that there is no use of taking AP CS as I have many ECs pertaining to CS and I already know Java pretty well.
That’s another way of looking at it, I suppose.
The fact is that French (by itself) isn’t going to place you above another applicant with a solid record in science and tech related subjects. Where it might help is when they are comparing your application with another that is similar in terms of scores, academics, etc.
Even there, an unusual extracurricular activity or something that you are clearly passionate about will make you stand out way more than demonstrating proficiency in French.
An AP in CS or P/C/Calc may also boost your academic record slightly, since you’ve got an 85% in 11th.
If you have a choice, take both. If you can’t, it’s a tough call, but I would still say go with AP in a core subject.
vn: the issue is that literally THOUSANDS of Indian applicants have near-perfect stem records. If OP is applying to a moderately selective, by-the-number state school like Purdue, it’ll be enough. If OP wants to apply to holistic colleges, the differentiation won’t be AP CS, but what OP did with his/her CS skills, how much of an impact s/he had, etc. AND how academically well-rounded s/he is(vs. purely Stem). French is rare in India, and if that can be tied into something else (Pondichéry? there has to be some way to elaborate on “interest in French”!) it’d become a distinguishing characteristics.
AP BC, but your curriculum should have covered that.
